Don't be so sure. If you read to the next page of the thread, you'll notice that Byrne comments "Okay, back to 'stardates are not chronological!'" when somebody points out that his latest story would have to take place before "Space Seed." I think the numerical list of stardates is just him examining the various possibilities.

Yeah, but he was kind of coy about it. He never had the Borg identified by name in the story, and just included a clue at the end to help the reader identify them, but not Kirk & crew. I remember Byrne said he was concerned that CBS/Paramount might reject the story for conflicting with some point of TNG/VOY continuity, but to his surprise it sailed through.

JB was not satisfied with the Borg retcon on STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, and wished to do a proper Borg intro in the TOS style. Without undermining TNG's "Best of Both Worlds". I feel it was a good effort.

Does it really count as a retcon when it was an in-universe timeline change? Would Sisko taking Bell's place also be considered a retcon?

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, at least. Do you mean something other than the FC Borg remnants in "Regeneration"?

My understanding that that was the ENT episode in question. In JB's NEW VISIONS, he disregards that version.
As to whether it was a retcon or always meant to be, not sure. Retcon; poor choice of terms on my part, perhaps.

No worries, just some confusion on my part!

I'd point this out to him over there, but he'd probably ban me if I tried.[/QUOTE]
    I was banned.
Because I felt his eight page Gorn story had more value being an original tale than a special edition of "The Cage".
Next I attempted to sign on I was met with a prompt that I was suspended apparently indefinitely.
Oh well I still read and collect New Visions because I like what JB did to bring my Star Trek back to life..

At least you didn't do something really awful, like call Superman "Supes".

Issue #15 with "The Traveler" came out this week. Did anyone else pick it up? I quite liked it. One of my favorite issues of the series so far.

I picked it up. I liked it too. I was expecting the Traveler character to be a Doctor Who analogue. While there were several parallels, the Traveler also differed from the Doctor significantly in other ways which helped make the story more interesting. A good read, as usual for this series.

    Me too. The bit about
his ship apparently being bigger on the inside
    was a big clue.
Yeah, I was expecting Byrne to throw us a curveball, and he did not disappoint.

I have to admit I have not read ANY of these, but I have started picking them up. Excited to get to them at some point.

The latest issue, Time Out of Joint was another fun issue delving back into some of Kirk's back story. A good few twists and turns in there, literally!

I always love it when Janice sees a bit of 'screen time', although it's a shame she's still little more than decoration in this issue. Hopefully she will get something a bit more proactive and meatier to do in future issues. An issue where she and Kirk have to work together on a landing party might be good, as long as the mush is minimised! Byrne also manages to squeeze in a lot of knowing cameos from some other familiar faces.

It's hardly a significant spoiler but I was surprised that Rand was upgraded to be a lieutenant at this point in the timeline given that she was a CPO in TMP and was originally going to be an ensign in the Phase ii script. I love chief O'Brien's vibe. It would have been nice to have a senior non com among the TOS cast. And it must have taken extra effort to put her in blue, although she does look great!

While I thought both "The Traveler" and "Time out of Joint" were both well plotted and constructed by JB, I couldn't give either a ringing erfendorsement.
Not a big Doctor Who fan so the former felt like a weak season three episode while the latter, evoking a stellar performance of William Shatner's Kirk in a tough but bizarre situation, felt to much like "All Good Things" from TNG, without the big series ending emotion tied to it.
But I'll still stick with New Visions for my dose of new TOS!

I've picked up and read the first issue ("The
Mirror, Cracked", "Time's Echo", "Sweet Sorrow").

Enjoyable! The medium is as much of the fun as the stories themselves.

And that HMS Enterprise universe glimpse makes the Terran Empire look light-hearded by comparison.

I wasn't so sure about this at first, but since I've heard lots of good things about it and since it was on sale, I just got the digital version of the first collection of New Visions.
