Of all the characters who were created solely for the alternate reality movies, who's your favorite?

It occurs to me that of all of the "good guy" new characters, two of the best are linked with Scotty - Keenser and Jaylah. (Gaila and Jaylah rhyme.)

Nero. I really bought into his motivations - I'd do just about anything to protect my loved ones. Would I go on a bonkers genocidal rampage? Probably not, but Eric Bana really made me believe that man was hurting, and underneath all the mass destruction was fighting to create a universe that would be safe for his beloved.

That, and "HI Christopher, I'm Nero."

I'm trying to think of where somebody would say "Hi __, I'm __" in that manner in another setting and drawing a blank.

Nero (reading the comics made me feel him all the more), Jaylah (and Gaila, but that's in my own headcanons and fanfictions)

eta: Chekov too ;) he's so different to me that he might as well be an original character (and I prefer Anton's version over the original?)

He's not as proud, I think, maybe from being accepted as a legitimate officer earlier in his life instead of having to prove himself.

Anton's Chekov is just adorable and like the littlest brother of the enterprise family. He wasn't a big character in terms of screentime, but I'll miss him if there is another movie and he, inevitably, won't be there. :( I still can't believe what happened to Anton.. life is unfair, he was so young and bright.

Gaila...I'm partial to redheads and green is my favourite colour. ;)

More seriously, even though it's number 3 on my list of the new films, my favourite exclusively Kelvin (so far) character is Jaylah. Her combination of intelligence, perseverance and vulnerability make for a complex character and a strong female character who shows her strength and courage rather than having the story tell us she's supposed to be strong with little evidence on display (sadly still too common in many stories, film or otherwise). I hope, if there are other films in this series, she will be among the crew.

me. i'm in the bar scene in star trek 2009 and then on the street in SF where i get smushed by the vengeance in into darkness.
sorry for the shameless self promotion.

not to incessantly agree with @King Daniel Beyond but nero was pretty cool, i liked eric bana's non-star trekky take on the role.

i'd have to go back through into darkness to find myself, but i'm basically a blur in both.

Nero has got to be the worst character. His "motivation" makes no sense. His dialog is terrible.

Jaylah or Krall are probably the best new significant characters, not that I really buy Krall's motivation, but at least he has real presence on the screen.

Nero. You can blame the man for anything and everything.

"Why is Chekov 17 in Star Trek when in the Prime Timeline he should only be 12?" "Nero."

"How did the Federation get the technology for interstellar beaming, like Khan did?" "Nero."

"Why is Captain Pike so old in Star Trek?" "Nero."

"Why is the U.S.S. Enterprise so much bigger than the original, and the bridge so glassy?" "Nero."

"How did my shoe become untied?" "Nero."

Nero, 1000%. Fascinating character, a great dark mirror or Spock, and his motivation is such a different take on a villain. I know, I know "Revenge!" is getting tired, but Nero was a person who was an average Romulan and forced through a traumatic event. Not sure why individuals expect a rational response from that?

I know I'm going to get attacked for this, but I don't think there were any good new characters. They did well with some of the recast originals, such as McCoy, Spock, Uhura, Chekov, Amanda, Sarek, and Pike.

They could have had a great NEW character if they hadn't made Cumberbatch be Khan, but instead had him really be the character they originally said he was going to be. (I don't remember the name.)
