Great news for the Cubs, terrible news for my fantasy team because Wilson will no longer be a closer.

The Mets will be trading Addison Reed to the Boston Red Sox

And with that trade of Candelario, the Cubs' prospect cupboard is effectively bare.

On one hand, a shitload of prospects will only get you so far. I think the Cubs have had exceptional luck with how their now-major league former prospects have panned out.

On the other hand, fingers crossed for no serious injuries to key players.

The Yanks get Sonny Gray for Dustin Fowler, Jorge Mateo and Pitcher James Kaprielian.

And the Dodgers acquire Yu Darvish. I'm not seeing the return for the Rangers yet.

Well, (arguably) they're carrying potential backups for most defensive positions on the active roster already. The depth behind there would be questionable, though.

    IF: Baez,LaStella, Happ
    OF: Jay, Happ

Bryant and Zobrist can play the OF capably enough. Contreras can play OF.

(LaStella is not active but I expect them to send down Grimm anyway)

If the damn broadcasters didn't show all those closeups of Bartman right after the failed catch, nobody would have ever known who he was. They made it a POINT to single him out in the stands. It's their fault as much as anyone else's.

^I blame the Urinator, as well. He would never have caught the ball. His mini-tantrum was completely unnecessary.

    "Urinator"? Never heard that one.
As far as Bartman, yeah, the broadcasters, the media after the fact and bitter fans made his life hell. That team found a way to quit all on their own. No curses, just a bunch of babies.

I think Alou would have caught it but that's not on Bartman. I blame Alou's reaction, Gonzalez's bobble, and Dusty's inaction.

Yep. I was at Game 6, and people were screaming for Bartman's head all night, and Cubs fans were looking for blood for months after, completely ignoring that Bartman didn't cause Gonzalez to boot the grounder, Prior to shit the bed, Farnsworth to piss himself on the mound -- and also conveniently forgetting that the entire team proceeded to lay an egg, because there was a whole other ballgame left to be played and it started off with Kerry Wood getting tarred and feathered in the first inning.

Edit: Also, holy shit, Billy Beane got fucking fleeced in that Sonny Gray deal. Mateo has had a rough couple of years in the minors and Kaprelian is probably broken; it's anyone's guess how Fowler comes back after his knee exploded.

^Beane is an idiot, but he looks even worse here because of his statement about taking Gray "off the table" if he couldn't find a deal he liked. He agreed to the exact sort of deal he was trying to avoid.

I hesitate to say that Beane is an idiot. When you have no money, it's easier to take advantage of market inefficiencies when everyone else is being a fucking moron ... but when the vast majority of the other clubs are also taking advantage of those inefficiencies, and they can actually spend money, well.

I was at game 5 (we lived in Orlando at the time) and I can still remember the chants of Pri-or, Pri-or by the Cub fans who were getting razzed by the Marlin fans after the loss. Would've been nice to see them win the pennant. Of course when I got up to hit the bathroom Lowell hits his two-run shot.

    Oh, the pain...

The Cubs managed a nice 16-4 plastering of the Diamondbacks last night, including Jon Lester's first career home run.

I hope they saved something for today.

Beane is giving away the ENTIRE team... anyone of value... and will continue to do so for the next few years.
    Ugh. I'm so over it.
Who's to say he will do a better job when he has actual money to play with? I think he got lucky with his moneyball nonsense, and has been trading on that "genius" label ever since.
