Will it take me to my office for 3 seconds when I'm late to work, and for 5 minutes when I want to have a chat with somebody on the way? If not, it's not a proper Star Trek turbo lft.
Star Trek turbolifts have patented plot sensitive technology for when you want to talk to someone for a while and not hurry
Gosh, I'm having enough trouble as it is putting a 4 story conventional elevator in a building I'm currently putting up.
Could be a great new technology to rival Elon Musks Hyperloop to provide congestion free travel back and forth between points in major cities. It would similar to a subway but would also be like a road network in the big city.
Only if it also includes the ability to halt the lift so you can have a sudden dramatic conversation with somebody else in there, so everybody else has to wait.
Thanks for posting this. VERY cool. I wonder how far they are from putting this into production. I imagine they couldn't really put this in existing buildings, so it would have to be employed only in new construction that accommodates it. I'll bet you the Freedom Tower designers are shaking their heads about not considering the possibility for this and making space available for it. I'll bet you anything that this ends up being used first in Dubai or some Asian country. The major advantage I could see in this is not so much providing sideways elevator service, but to be able to shift elevators between lobbies in very large buildings... so if there's a high traffic period on one particular part of the building, elevators could be routed to handle the load where it's needed most. Would also be interesting to learn if they're doing this by voice control only, or if manual control might be permitted.
