Well, if you really want to be technical, she should be The Fifteenth Doctor (The War Doctor and the Meta-Crisis Doctor) as per The Time of the Doctor's explanation for The Eleventh Doctor's worry about not being able to regenerate until he got another cycle of regenerations from the Time Lords. But for simplicity's sake, the post-Eighth Doctor incarnations aren't going to be renumbered.

She's the 13th main cast member to hold the role of the incumbent Doctor, so she's the 13th Doctor. They will never change it for ex post facto or other Doctors who appear.

13th Doctor. 15th Incarnation of the Time Lord, 14th Regeneration.

    1st Doctor - "a bit thin"
    2nd Doctor - forced regeneration
    3rd Doctor - death
    4th Doctor - death
    5th Doctor - death
    6th Doctor - head trauma?
    7th Doctor - malpractice
8th Doctor - sudden impact plus choice
Jumped started regeneration into War Doctor/Warrior (John Hurt) - "a bit thin
9th Doctor - too much energy
    10th Doctor - death
False start Regeneration (leading to creation of a half human Doctor and temporary Doctor Donna) - 10th Doctor retains his face. - too much energy
11th Doctor - end of normal regeneration for this Time Lord. - old age...beyond "a bit thin"
New set of regeneration acquired leads to 12th Doctor - TBD
    13th Doctor - noobie

A future Sixth Doctor forcibly programmed his past self's TARDIS to go to Lakertya, knowing that Rani's radiation beams would cause his regeneration. Essentially, then.. a retro suicide? With Rani's help? Either way, Rani actually caused it, as her beams were "harmful to Time Lords."

Also, I think we know why the 12th regenerates... he was shot by Cybermen not once by twice, at least. He's just holding it off, Ten-style.

I had a few days to ponder this. I've never had faith in the casting of a new doctor, I've never been able to picture how the new actor could carry the role, and I always expected to give it enough chance to see it fall on its face (suppose I can thank Colin Baker's run for this particular insecurity).

I expect Jodie to be no different and will prove me wrong yet again. I only hope it doesn't take until her last series for me to warm to her, but that's on the writing.

But hasn't the Doctor been holding it off since before then? He was shot in the big climactic battle, but he's leaked regeneration energy a few times before that.

My theory is the regeneration was triggered by accidentally being shot with real bullets in The Lie of the Land. The supposed fake-out light show for the benefit of someone (Bill) who had no idea what a regeneration was? Yeah, right. It was the real deal, and the Doctor aborted the regeneration and has been keeping it from completing. In the last few episodes, the regeneration is starting to overwhelm his restraint.

Can the Doctor hold off for that long? I'm not that sure... Although who knows.

Ouch! Forgotten already? You were just down ther
He also faked an incompleted regeneration for the benefit of Amy, Rory, & River in "The Impossible Astronaut" despite the fact that we later learned that he was on his last regeneration anyway.

As for the numbering of the Doctors post-McGann, I wonder if they'll make a joke about that in the Christmas special.
Bradley: "What regeneration are we on?"
Capaldi: "Oh, let's not get into that."

I think Jodie is a great Doctor just all these rumours and stuff going on about her, it's like people are trying to push her into leaving.

I would be happy with her staying on. The writing staff could use a bit of shake-up, however.

    A bit of a shake-up ... ?

I was thinking a one-way ticket into The Void.

Agreed. We need to go back to the Tom Baker days where one head writer/showrunner does not kill off the Doctor when he leaves. Let someone else sign on and get a chance to work with the Doctor and make her their own.
