You think they'll do a movie with the Borg battling the Kelvin Kirk?

I hope not. The IDW comics going there was bad enough.

I'll be satisfied if a fourth movie even gets made at this point.

I think there's massive potential, if they ditched the rubber costumes and Uncle Fester makeup and used CG to replace body parts with machinery. Remake them into a Steampunk zombie army and they could be amazing.

It's a move that reeks desperation... so I imagine it's very high on Paramount's list of options.

I know better than to say it won't ever happen, but there are any number of story scenarios I'd rather see made into movies than that one.

Same. If I never see the Borg in another episode or movie, I won't honestly miss them.

They'll probably just have Carol Marcus work on Genesis...

If done correctly, Kirk vs. the Borg would be the most financially successful film in the history of the franchise, despite the hardcore fan backlash (which will inevitably occur regardless of creative choice).

Yeah, for sure. And it's odd regarding the Borg because they've actually been sparingly used compared to the Vulcans, Klingons, and Romulans.

Their one film appearance resulted in a financially and critically successful film, and they're an aspect of Trek that is part of the larger pop culture which is needed to attract large segments of the general audience.

The fanbase or VOY-only fans may have tired of the Borg, but the general audience hasn't seen the Borg on the big screen in over 20 years. If TPTB reconceptualized their individual appearances and created a solid script, they'd clean up and jumpstart the Kelvinverse film franchise.

I'm not actually in a rush for the nuTrek Borg movie though. I'm optimistic about the future of the Kelvinverse films. I actually think the Kelvinverse will produce 4-6 more films over the next 20 to 30 years. That reflects the business reality of a weak studio with few good options, an enduring brand, and the young cast's ability to take extended breaks and return whenever mutual desire and timing allow for reunions.

But Paramount would be crazy not to be thinking about a Kirk-Borg movie. It's the easiest money they could make.

Or have the newest Enterprise be the only ship capable of intercepting nu-V'ger.
The Borg? Pop culture has no idea about the Borg, outside of Trek fandom they're unknown.

Recast Guinan and involve her but otherwise leave prime universe/continuity porn out of it, IMHO

I wouldn't go quite that far - the phrase 'resistance is futile' is quite well known, but the flip side is that it's probably more well known by people in their 30's at least. Your average youngster won't know it. It's still probably one of Trek's best chances for success, alongside the Klingons.

You're probably right that if they used the Borg in the next one it would be a massive hit. And on that basis alone I'd support the idea becsuse I think these movies are good and I want to see them succeed financially. More successful than they are now, which is good but not the numbers Paramount expects.

I mean it wouldn't be my first choice. But if a Borg Kelvin movie was a hit at the box office it would ease tensions about the franchise and they would have more freedom to do what they want with ST5. It's cynical but hey, it might work.
