Hi everyone! I'm new to these message boards and wanted to jump right in with a poll. I'm aware that a poll such as this one has probably already been submitted multiple times so I apologize to those who have participated in this type of thing before but this will help me get the lay of the land in a more timely fashion. Now a little about myself: I'm 32 years old and have been a Trekkie for around 10 years. I started with TOS, then TAS, the movies, ENT, TNG, DS9, and finally VOY and loved every second of it! TOS is my favorite and TMP is my favorite movie. Now like all of you I was initially ecstatic about the news of a new Trek show coming to fruition. I was one of the many disappointed fans who begrudgingly went out to support the JJverse films even though I didn't like them at all (well the third one was ok). Finally I felt vindicated when the news of a new show broke only to be subsequently disasappointed with each successive reveal of the show that will be known as Discovery. From the time period to the reimaginings and everything in between I'm just not on board with it. To those who can't wait for Discovery and have enjoyed what they've seen so far then god bless but this isn't for you. For those of you who feel like me please take the time and vote in my poll on the route you would have went if you were handed the reigns of the new Trek show from the beginning!

    Welcome!

I love what I've seen from Discovery so far, so I'm not coming from the same place as you.

That said, if I had my way...I think I would have better liked an anthology series of some kind, perhaps with 1-4 episode arcs taking place in different timeframes and settings within the universe. Even season-to-season perhaps.

But, since that's not feasible probably from a budget standpoint, I'll stand behind what we're getting until I have sufficient reason not to (which hopefully never happens)!

I don't recall anyone polling me on what I wanted instead of TNG, or DS9, or VOY, or ENT . . . . . :)

We haven't even seen DISCOVERY yet so I'm not inclined to second-guess it.

I am cautiously optimistic about Discovery. Trek is all about optimism, right? Trek is coming back to TV, at last!

The bits and pieces that we have gotten may not necessarily be completely to my taste or preference, but I'm going to wait and watch the show with an open mind and see how it actually is, instead of passing judgment on it and deciding I don't like it in advance for no reason.

That being said, if we weren't getting ST-Dis, then I could totally go for a show set in the JJVerse, perhaps in the era of the USS Kelvin that we got a brief glimpse of in ST09. JJ-Trek made me fall in love with Star Trek again.

Personally I'm not digging what I've seen in the trailers (nor the fact that I would have to join their service to watch it)

I would reather see something set post Voyager

I did not have a specific wish. I just had a few things that I did not want to see:

    -Romulan War
    -Klingon War/Anything Klingon
    -Anything Borg
    -Anything Mirror Universe.
-And, well, if possible, no more Time Travel.

I think these horses have been beaten to death and I was ready for something entirely new.

Of course they had to bring back the klingons again. Gah. -.-

I've gone back-and-forth with DSC, but will certainly give it at least the first eight episodes, or to whenever the midseason break is. While the trailers do feel a little darker than I was hoping for, what they're doing as far as the aesthetics goes looks gorgeous. I'm just glad there's a new Trek show to look forward to.

But to answer your question, I've pushed for an anthology show before, and I still think it's a good idea. Hey, you can cast Jeffrey Combs in a different role every season! ;)

I have no idea yet wether or not I want something else than Discovery, since I haven't see the show yet. All I've seen are two trailers and some stills. That's not enough for any reasonable person to judge an opinion on.

I would have done a replacement Enterprise series AND/OR a Kirk era prequel starting with Captain April in command of the Enterprise.

100 years post Voyager. I think it's the only way to force writers to start consulting futurists about what the future of our civilization holds and creating original stories around SCIENCE fiction ideas, not to mention to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Star Trek, in general, represents a very pessimistic rate of technological and scientific progress. If you have any interest in futurism, you'd know what I'm talking about. Of course, except for the warp drives, which come way too soon and may or may not be impossible to achieve. So it's a distorted technological path of progress which forces me to create my own headcanon where everything is taking place in the 22nd century, since there's almost no progress made between the centuries. So taking this 100 years further into the future would at least offer us something new. In spirit I'd like something like those stand alone TOS episodes where they encounter an interesting sci-fi idea, deal with it and no cliff hangers are left by the end of the episode. I want that but made knowing everything we know today.

A future with no technological or genetic human augmentation to speak of is very backwards, indeed.

In fairness when the other shows were coming out there wasn't Facebook or Twitter where the fans could give INSTANT feedback on anything

A different prequel timeline. A series set before TNG, maybe an Enterprise C series. Fill in some history gasp, tell some stories not bogged down by Voyager tech' or the ever faster-developing Federation tech'. Also, the benefit of avoiding those Godawful TNG film uniforms and ship designs.

Maybe even a series of TV movies, telling different stories. Imagine one where a mirror universe ship makes it's way into the main universe and starts reeking havoc and needs to be hunted down and eliminated.

Discovery looks fine enough as it is. Why not be supportive of the show we're getting and the fact that Star Trek is returning to TV?

I went with Other. The time period doesn't mean anything to me. Don't care that the show looks a little different than the other shows. Don't care about DSC "violating" "canon" or anything like that. My only wish for any Star Trek show is that the writers, producers, directors, and actors are all competent, earnest, and tell a story that they care about. And from what I've seen and heard, DSC seems to fit the bill. So, I'm very excited for DSC. Couldn't be happier we're getting new Star Trek. The time period is meaningless. I just want good stories.

This is the only priority a new Trek series needs to fulfill.

Thanks to everyone who has voted and commented so far. I respect the fans who like what they've seen of DSC so far but again this was more of a thread for fans who are disappointed by what they've seen or heard from DSC. Also I wanted to know what my fellow Trekkies would of done if they were given the ultimate responsibility: bring Trek back to the small screen for the first time in 12 years. I personally voted 15 years post Nemesis. I'd move the franchise ahead in real time (Nemesis was of course 2002) and set the franchise up for the next couple decades like TNG did in the late 80s. From my memory there was still one quadrant of the Milky Way left to explore and then the ultimate challenge: go intergalactic and exploring strange new worlds in whole different galaxies! The possibilities are endless. Also it'd allow them to bring back any and all previous characters and/or crews as well as continuing any story threads they wished. I just look forward to the day the franchise quits spinning its tires with reimaginings, reboots, prequels, and actually gets back to moving the franchise's narrative forward.

I'd have done Smallville-Trek, with reimagined TOS characters saving the galaxy between classes at Starfleet Academy.

From what I've seen so far, I'm cool with the direction they've taken Discovery. I'm loving the new look.

I like the idea of going 100 years after Nemesis, but really anything post-nemesis would have been fine with me. It would be really interesting to go really far in the future.. say 500 years post-nemesis. We've seen 29th and 30th century characters already, it would be cool to set it then and have the hero ship be a timeship.
