My first ever art challenge entry! Kirk, Spock, and McCoy encounter the 10th plague of Egypt. I drew this with pencil, outlined with pencil crayon and black gel pen, and colored it with pencil crayon. I originally hand-wrote the speech bubbles too, but when I wrote over them again in pen, I made them unintelligible. So I re-did them on Powerpoint. I gave the cloud a skull face to emphasize that it's deadly. By the way, McCoy has good reason to worry; canonically speaking, he's a firstborn.
I have them in their uniforms so that they're recognizable. Yeah, I was thinking of that film. I originally thought of doing a scene with the Red Sea parting, or baby Moses in the basket. And before that, I considered Spoiler: Idea I didn't use - don't want to spoil someone else's angry temporal agents showing Spock on a wall painting nerve pinching an Egyptian to Kirk and Spock, the former sheepishly smiling.
@Laura Cynthia Chambers, I'm glad you are entering the contest. Cool! As for you entry, I love the idea of taking something from the Book of Exodus*, but I would have loved if you'd gone the extra mile and scan your work to make it come out better. I realize that's not an option for everybody, but I'm sure this would have presented your work in a much better light. This photo looks somewhat blurry, which is really a shame as, again, I really like the idea. * Sorry for going off-topic, but coincidentally, I'm currently reading Exodus. I'm an atheist, but I always wanted to give the Bible a proper read through. Genesis I found really interesting from a literary perspective (love the fantasy aspects of it, to be honest), but Exodus is actually more of a chore for me to read, I don't know why. In Genesis God seemed very reticent, more or less letting Mankind do its thing, only giving them pointers here or there. But in Exodus he's constantly meddling, giving Moses all those awesome powers in his fight to free the Israelites and so on. I think that has something to do with it.
Yeah, aside from the context, it's not blatantly Egypt-y (no hieroglyphs, mummies, etc.) I don't have access to a scanner. *Good on you for reading the Bible. You might be surprised what you find when you do.
I was raised Christian and am intimately familiar with the Bible. My faith has since ebbed away, but I still think the Bible is an important read. So much of Western art and literature is founded on stories from the Bible, so I think any educated person ought to read at least the highlights of the Bible. So, I agree, good for you for digging into it, even if you aren't religious. --Alex
Firstly, nice to see your entry. I appreciate the colored pencil or crayon media. As for Mccoy being a firstborn... While true, the context of the Exodus account indicates it wasn't all firstborns who died but specifically the first born for that particular household. Adult heads of the house were spared. Pharaoh was a first born, but survived until he chased the Israelites to the Red Sea.
Yeah, exactly, that's why I started reading it. Just from Genesis alone I noticed so many things, stories and names I had encountered before in other media. Additionally, I just get a kick out of reading something that has survived the centuries for so long and that moves so many people. At some point you just get curious what all the hype is about. Dude, spoilers!

Well, at the very least, he's the firstborn of his father and mother as a couple. Not sure if that counts.
It's canon, not just in your head... since they made it clear Sybok had a different mother in Star Trek IV.
Must have been a scene left upon the cutting floor since Sybok was not revealed until Star Trek V: the Final Frontier". Yes, I can be an a$$ at times.
