It's just ugly. There's no in depth argument to be had about the logic or illogic of it's design, it's just plain ugly. It looks like a bad kitbash that'd be in the background of a starship graveyard.
In your opinion. as you can see from this thread there are quite a few people who do like it, and don't think it is ugly.
Completely subjecitve; no fact here. There can always be discussion, at length, about any matter of taste and opinion. Whether that's productive or not is itself a matter of taste and opinion.
Well, a version of it was in Wolf 359, and another in spacedock in TSFS... But like other things we're discussing on here, the look is subjective. I love the look of it, and it does fit in with what could be a starship developed a little over a decade or so pre-TOS, to me.

Some clearer images I cleaned up. It's a great design with a majestic looking saucer from many angles. My only complaint: those nacelles are too long. Some of you will find this familiar.
The pylons going right into the nacelles looks better than the small upturn on previous versions. You can just about see the bridge in the second image. I wonder if those connections are walkways at all, and given how thin the saucer is, does it simply have turbolifts spin around the sections at high speed, then they move across the four bridges into the next ring?
It looks to me like even the 'final' Shenzhou concept art doesn't quite match the actual version we've seen in the trailer, as it lacks the two rows of windows on the parts between the nacelles. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some tweaks to the Discovery too as it went from concept to a fully details model, possibly including the slightly shorter nacelles the poster seems to have.
It's interesting that they aren't using any fully rendered, finished images of either Shenzhou or Discovery to promote the show yet other than in the trailer itself. They're saving them. Maybe tomorrow.
There are 4 triangular markings on the underside of the outer saucer ring. These look similar to markings on the TOS Enterprise that were often labeled as retractable landing struts. Could these have a similar purpose? Would the connecting struts between rings provide sufficient support for landing in non-negligible gravity? I had also always wondered how the TOS Enterprise saucer could make a vertical landing without any visible downward thrust ports on the bottom of the saucer. Likewise, I don't see anything like that on Discovery. It probably makes more sense the way the Enterprise-D did it -- thrusters to help keep the saucer level during descent, then sliding on its belly until it stopped. Not glamorous, but effective.
Well I mean actual scenes from the show, not just the trailer. Maybe the first few minutes of the Pilot or something. A thing shown only for comic-con.
Since the last trailer was released I had the feeling the next one should be solely about the Discovery and its crew (Captain Lorca, I'm looking at your direction). Hopefully we'll get to see something tomorrow.
Large sections of the design (specifically the arrow) have no features, instead relying entirely on textures to give the model depth and weight. That'd certainly speed up rendering time, but the lack of shadows and detail/angles have a tendency to make things look toylike on a lower budget, especially on an HD screen. That may be why they decided to have a cutout section in the saucer. It's where the camera will be most focused on and as such needs some depth to it. That or the overall model just looked boring. The nacelles are overly elongated (and again lacking in detail), but I guess they were trying to focus on making it look good in limited angles. The Shenzou is strangely the opposite for a non-hero ship. It's model is highly detailed, with different angles, features and no large flat spaces. It actually looks like it's had the most effort put into it. For the Discovery possibly. Just as likely is that they're still rendering them or they don't like the scenes they've rendered. For the Shenzou a lot of her scenes are probably spoilery, so yeah, they'll be saving them.
They have to show us Discovery and Lorca at some point. SDCC panel is a logical choice Jason Isaacs is attending the panel today, they have to introduce us to his character.
