Probably since Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King came out in 1981.

Court's a minister in a church that she founded so it's probably a nice little tax dodge as well.

A nice play to visit but you wouldn't want to live there? :)

And yes I've been to Perth but that was coming up on 25 years ago. A firiend of dad's have a cottage in a town called York about 90mins out of the city itself and we stayed there.

I've never been to Perth but I have a friend who has moved there so I could theoretically visit but.. airfares jesus christ. It's hard to buy a plate ticket within your own country that is more than leaving the country would cost.

That could depend on where you're flying to outside of Australia. According to Expedia you could do Melbourne Perth and return with QANTAS for $560 inc taxes.

When I flew in 1992, it cost me $700 return and that was with a student discount. and from Adelaide According to the RBA's inflation calculator, that's the equivalent for $1274 in 2016 dollars so I think I prefer the current prices.

I paid 550 for a return flight to Osaka this year, and I could have gotten it for under 500 if I had more layover time. So Perth at 560 looks really dumb

And yeah I remember when the flights were so dramatically worse, we had the most expensive domestic travel in the world.

now that is a good price :) Who did you fly with?

last trip back to Australian cost me about $AU2700 per person but that was ex-Toronto and into Adelaide.

Could also be helped by passenger volume and how nasty taxes and fares into Japan.

North America can be bad for the taxes and fees on trips. Irrc my taxes and fees were around $250 - $300 so there's over half the cost of your ticket.

This is the best fare searcher, calendar for seeing prices by date etc.. heaps less annoying than other sites.

    https://www.skyscanner.com.au/

Flew with Vietnam Airlines, consistently good prices for that area of the world. Jetstar has once a year deals to Japan for I think 275? Or something.. but that's with no luggage, food, anything and long layovers. But the luggage is a pain, not cheap to buy stuff there.

And my god that's a lot of money to fly back here.. but yeah the east coast of NA adds a lot and I assume flying to Adelaide does too. Might be cheaper to fly to Melb and then take a train, even with a night to recover in a hotel!

still half the price of flying at Christmas (two Christms time trips to Canada took care of $10k) but it was about the only time I could get away (the problem with being self employed) as most of my clients closed up over the Xmas break.

Not really much an option to come in via the east coast unless you go up through Asia (can't remember if's Singapore or Hong Kong) with Cathay Pacific). Most of time it's Sydney to L.A to Toronto, (QANTAS) or Sydney to Vancouver (Air Canada). Air Canada is doing Vancouver Brisbane but don't know if that's any cheaper.

Don't think the Adelaide leg is adding that much (about $200 iirc). The real bitch is flying out from Adelaide which is a 6:30am flight so up at 3am but the worst part seems to be the last 90mins from Pearson Int Airport to home.

Some-one needs to develope the transporter ASAP.
