    @Psion

    It is completely silly to try to use our 21st century science for this. For example in trek they have inertia dampers and replicators, and they probably have something far more advanced than radiators to handle the heat.

    Verisimilitude is not achieved by trying to conform modern day science, but with consistent design language. Trek is pretty good with this. Federation ships have numerous characteristics in common, which tells us that these are vessels created by a single culture. We rally don't need to know reason for these design choices, though of course some will inevitably pop up in the dialogue.

    In fact that it is better if these things that are supposed to be products of super advanced science have design choices that may seem weird to us. That makes them more realistic, not less. I am sure a person from hundreds of years from the past would find our modern vehicles and gadgets to be peculiar looking and wonder their weird design, as they would not understand the technology behind them.

    Evil Starfleet admirals? :shrug:
    Some suggested it's actually dark blue, not black.

    I think it's dark blue, but studio lighting and color correction brighten it a bit. Kind of like the greenish TOS uniforms that came out as yellow or gold on TV, or the purplish TNG uniforms that look more burgundy after lighting and all.

    I was thinking admiral, but I thought they had more pips. If it's really dark blue, this feels like the whole black/blue-white/gold dress thing all over again :lol:

    Aw man.
    I'm really not that happy with the direction they're taking the klingons in. Which really is a shame. because these designs are FRIGGIN' AMAZING!

    This new H-R. Giger style just clashes hard with the utilitarian, brutalistic style klingons are known for.
    Goddammit. I wish the producers had the balls to just make a new, previously unknown species the bad guys! If all these designs were for a new alien species, and not klingons, I'd be f*cking ecstatic right now!!! Instead of slightly disappointed...

    I really suggest you wait and see all of this on screen. Stills are so much different than when you see things on tv. Give it time. Don't judge before hand, judge afterwards.

    Oh my ... the laser cutters sure were running hot when they built all those Klingon goodies!

    I agree, however, consider human cultures that have had major stylistic changes over the years. Compare Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, and Brutalist architectures, for example. There's also been some discussion that the Klingons are getting more fleshed out in this series, with deeper motivations and broader interests. Taken together, we could be seeing a new side to Klingons that we've never seen before, rather than a complete re-imagining.

    I'm a cynic trying to be optimistic.

    Eh.
    I'll judge what I see when I see it. And I HAVE opinions about them, so why not articulate them? I mean, we have seen all of that, if only briefly, already in the trailer.

    And as soon as we have the first episode aired, there'll be A LOT of other things to discuss, from charcters to plotting and writing. So why not discuss the production design right away when we first see it?

    Also, a BIG, loud Thank You! to @RAMA for posting links to all that stuff! Really appreciate that!
