There was a similiar thread not to long ago about the colonel's so I felt I would do one with the main scientist.

For me Rodney McKay wins by a landslide but that isn't a knock on the others. It's just that he is in my top 10 tv characters of all time so he is a giant among giants. I loved how he was basically the star of the show even though he is not even close to being a typical lead/star. He could be rude and cowardly at times though brave at other times though sometimes that felt more like it was inspired by a need to prove how smart he was just as much as it was to simply do the right thing.

Jonas Quinn. Something about his earnest, curious nature, that really was enjoyable for me.

Something not specifically to do with this discussion but I thought it might be a bit early to start a thread about, MGM is holding an SG-1 panel at SDCC and it seems like they're going to announce something big. They've talked about "The next chapter in the Stargate universe" and that "Fans will prepare to embark on a new adventure" so it sounds to me like Stargate is about to make a comeback.

Edit: I just started listening to the new official Stargate podcast and they confirmed that Stargate is definitely coming back with details to be revealed tomorrow. I Can't wait!

That's good news, but I hope it's not a reboot but a continuation.
I voted for Carter in the poll, but McKay is a fairly close second.

I would expect a reboot to be more likely at this point, but since they're going to make the official announcement at the SG-1 anniversary panel it would feel a bit rude to celebrate the original cast and then immediately after say that they're replacing all of them.
I voted for McKay because I like how flawed he is. Carter's great but McKay feels more real and is more entertaining.

I forgot about him. He should get some respect as well. Not to mention "Universe" had several scientist that felt like regulars as well that I didn't mention but should have.

    Yay !

The other Stargate fans I knew loathed Jonas. Really loathed him. Hated the very sight. I didn't like him much, but nothing that excessive...

Given the reaction I get for liking Abrams Trek more than TNG, I am used to that lol

    Anyway, Rodney.

And not just because Mrs Relayer swears he's the shows sex symbol...

Rodney McKay, who had a credible spectrum of character traits and wasn't practically perfect in every way like Sam Carter. The only thing that seemed very unlikely was that he would hook up with Jennifer Keller.

I thought he and Keller made a good match. I got to admit I kind of wish though he and Carter eventually got together as a couple.

Well, assuming the characters are the same age as the actors, 14 years seems like a big age difference. Carter would be 3 years older than Rodney, which is more credible, although it seemed as though she could barely tolerate him apart from on a professional level.

According to this post on Reddit, the name Stargate: Origins was trademarked recently. Could be a joke, but...

    Carter easily.

Is Daniel Jackson really a scientist? More a historian.

There's really no reason to remake Stargate. The characters aren't iconic enough to get value from having some new guy named Jack O'Neill. But, the franchise has a devoted enough niche to get excited about a new show.
