Hi, bit of a random question here and apologies if it’s the wrong forum, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of what Ms Hannigan is like at conventions? She’s going to be in London in July and given I’ve always been a fan I have to go meet her. I have a choice between getting a photo shoot or an autograph (can’t justify the expense of both unfortunately) but I’ve had varying experiences on the photo front going from Famke Jansson at one end of the spectrum who sat stock still and barely acknowledged my existence, to Alex Siddig at the other who was wonderful and greeted me as warmly as if I were a long lost friend. In hindsight I wish I’d just got Famke’s autograph instead (conversely I did get Michelle Gomez’s who was lovely but wish I’d had a photo op with her as she basically pulled a different face with every person she was with!).

Just wondering where AH fits on the celebrity spectrum (and always aware that she’s a human being so even if she’s usually lovely that doesn’t preclude her having a bad day)

While I have no information to give you about Alyson Hannigan in person, I do want to say have fun and enjoy your convention experience. Come back here and tell us all about it.

    Sounds like would be LFCC.

As for which is better option photo shoot or autograph it can vary based on how popular that guest is, and how long they are doing signing/photoshoots for.

Ouch! Forgotten already? You were just down ther
She was here in Phoenix last year. I didn't have the patience to brave the crazy long lines she had. I got an autograph from her husband, Alexis Denisof, though. (I've always been more of an Angel fan than a Buffy fan anyway.) He was really nice and has one of the best smiles in the world.

I'm pretty jealous of the list of guests you've got in London. We don't get many classic Doctor Who actors in Phoenix. (I think we had Colin Baker & Paul McGann at Phoenix FanFest a few years ago but I was too sick to go that year.)

And I wasn't even aware that Thomas F. Wilson was doing conventions anymore. I thought that he quit about a decade ago, right around the time that the rest of the Back to the Future actors started doing them more.

I certainly know what you mean about stars having a wide range of demeanors. In my experience:

    Nicest:
    Amanda Tapping
Neve McIntosh (I'm a tiny bit in love now.)
James Marsters (Gave me all sorts of inside gossip from the Buffy/Angel set.)
The late, lamented Richard LeParmentier (Didn't bat an eye when I had him sign it, "Imperial officers do it while they're choking.")
    Alexis Denisof
Eve Myles (Delightfully insane. None of her stories are safe for children.)
Rachel Skarsten (Surprisingly down to earth yet immensely entertaining.)
    Robert Beltran
    Jeremy Bulloch

Least nice (at least on that day):
Tim Russ (Barely acknowledged my presence.)
Nicholas Brendon (Clearly hungover, although I later learned of his genuine psychological issues, so... damn. :( )
Charisma Carpenter (Didn't seem to care.)
Peter Mayhew (Clearly sick of doing f---ing conventions!)
And while I hate to say it, Christopher Lloyd was polite but seems like he's probably too introverted to be much of a convention guest.

    Most mercenary:
Walter Koenig (Sat lifeless until I paid him, then lit up like a Christmas tree and ran around the table to take a photo with me. It was a pretty long table and I didn't even ask him for a photo.)
Chase Masterson (Was clearly flirting with me and was clearly just doing it so that I would buy her CD and her movie. I did. :D )

Most like the character they played:
Jonathan Frakes (Still totally has that Commander Riker charm & swagger.)
Rachel Skarsten (Sarcastic like Tamsin but isn't insulting you every few minutes, so... bonus!)

That's interesting about Koenig as I've got a photo shoot booked with him too!

Envious of you meeting Neve, between us we have the whole Paternoster Gang as I've met Jenny and Strax (was fun getting Dan to sign it from one Starkey to another!)

I have a lot of social anxiety and insecurity as it is and so paying $$$ to "meet" the stars and get their pictures just made me feel real uncomfortable. I have nothing against people that do but I didn't care for the experience.

Do you have to sign up for this in advance? If not, maybe you could observe how she interacts with other people in the line (queue?) and then determine your action from there? Would you be going to this con or whatever if it wasn't for AH?

My brother! I just can't do it either. The only one I actually intentionally approached was Pat Tallman, 'cause I'm just so crazy about her. And she's a doll to talk to.

I haven't met many celebrities, but George Takei was a real sweetheart. He was a guest at a convention in Boston in the early 80s and my friend and I had a table there. I came down early from our room one morning to get a glass of orange juice and took a peek inside the convention hall-- turned around and there was George. We chatted for a couple of minutes. He talked about taking Aikido lessons (I think), because it was during the filming of STIII and he had to flip that guy.

I've met pretty much all of the BSG cast, they've all been wonderful.

This reminds me of a panel I attend at Calgary Expo a few years ago. I think it was a few months before "The Plan" came out. There was Edward James Olmos and Kandyse McClure in attendance. The panel was awesome, but the end of it was amazing. It was like a Steve Jobs "one last thing" moment. Olmos stands up, and so does everyone in the room. You know the crowd has been anticipating this since since before the panel started...there was a palpable pent up energy in the room. Then, just as the dam was about to burst, Olmos in his most authoritative Adama voice belts out "So Say We All!"...The entire crowd released all it's pent up energy all at once and in perfect unison all joined together with a very loud "So Say We All!" in response. It sounds silly, but damn was that awesome. For a moment, a brief moment....it wasn't Edward James Olmos giving the crowd what they wanted, it was Adama speaking to his crew. For a brief moment, it actually felt like I was on the Galactica. It's a memory I will always treasure.

I was at a BSG party at Dragon Con in the time between the first and last half of season two. The entire cast was there and Olmos gave us a full Adams style speech and then ended it with a "So Say We All". If he has asked to follow him into a major battle we all would have gone. It's why I could never see his speeches as cheesy, you get really pumped up.

Well I got my photo with Alyson Hannigan and it was amazing!

Also met Andrew Robinson which was similarly great, he's a really nice bloke

Oddly I think I was more flustered meeting Alicia Witt than Alyson Hannigan! She was lovely though!

Anyway it was a good day (a few other pics in the Dr Who forum) got some autographs, met some nice people and didn't spend too much!

The Alicia photo looks a little awkward but your picture with Alyson looks like it could be a family photo, very natural and comfortable. Nice that it worked out for you.

Oh forgot to add, I told Andrew Robinson my day was all the better for having me him and he said "I bet you say that to all the old Cardassians"

Tricia Helfer, though I did breifly chat with Michelle Harrison (Nora Allen, The Flash).

But these days I go to these events more to catch up with friends than meet the actors.
