Jim, there's the proof that CBS would allow the remaining episodes to be finished. "Get back your command before you turn into part of this collection."

I hope not. "Commanding this is your first, best destiny. Anything else is simply a waste of material."

I'm not privy to the details of James' licensing agreement with CBS for the "Star Trek The Original Series Set Tour." But it's conceivable that as a condition of his licensure, James is prohibited from releasing any further Trek fan film productions. So restrictions on any further productions might be due to the licensing agreement for the Set Tour--not CBS' fan film Guidelines.

This had occurred to me as well. However, since I donated to the last fundraiser because wanted to see those films and with the hope of more, I find myself not particularly sympathetic.

    @Barbreader:

    Yet another reminder:

To clarify some details on our 2015 Star Trek New Voyages Kickstarter, we specified to what the donated money was to be applied:

    "FIRST GOAL: $20,000

"$20,000 covers the basic costs (very basic) of our July 2015 Shoot, such as electricity, equipment rental and other filming expenses. So, making our base goal allows us to cover our basic expenses, and leaves covering the rest of the shoot expenses up to our production team.

    "$50,000 STRETCH GOAL

"With your help in reaching this goal, the rest of our expenses for our July 2015 "Torment of Destiny" shoot will be met, and this will also allow us the funding necessary to complete more of our standing sets including realize a fully completed Medical office/Lab and Exam Room! So Please help the good Doctor McCoy get his digs!"

Since we (just barely) hit the $50,000 Stretch Goal ($50,001!) we seem to be obliged to provide the following things:
    • Basic production costs for our June 2015 shoot ("Torment of Destiny") DONE
    • Post-production costs (editing, color timing, music, sound effects, etc.) necessary to get "Torment of Destiny" released IN PROCESS
    • Completion of more of our standing sets--including McCoy's medical office/laboratory/examination room Sick Bay suite. DONE
So, to make good on this Kickstarter campaign, and to make good on the one and only deliverable that remains outstanding still, we've been working on trying to complete "Torment of Destiny" as time allows. Much time, energy, money, and resources are being sunk into our new "Star Trek: The Original Set Tour" project, of course. But we continue to get work done in dribs and drabs on "Torment of Destiny;" I'm optimistic that we'll finally get it out the door eventually.

I don't know what James' plans are for "Origins: The Protracted Man," and for "Bread and Savagery." (I knew at one time, but it's all a new ball game since CBS' Fan Film Guidelines were released and whatever fan film prohibitions there might now be placed on James under the Star Trek: The Original Set Tour licensing arrangement. I don't know what James' thinking is now; much post-production work remains on these two episodes.)

Anyone close to James actually take the time to ASK him what his plans are and what he is able and limited to do - at least what he can tell us?

It all seems conflicting on How "Torment of Destiny" be completed when the Fan films guidelines say otherwise when Kickstarter rules says it has to get done.

From what I can gather Greg is as close as anyone to James. I take what he is saying as the most reliable information available. Greg has mentioned more than once in the past that James keeps his own council on such matters and I respect that choice. I'd love to see all three episodes, but if they don't happen, that's life. I am deeply grateful to so many people for giving me so much entertainment.

Nothing quite like a politicalized and distortive response to a lawyer who wasn't planning on suing. I have to ask, were you TRYING to annoy me? I'm not suing, why try to convince me to do otherwise? MY understanding of what James said is that Torment of Destiny will not be released. In fact, NOTHING FURTHER will be released, period.

What's more, you ignored the tone of my prior post and selected one you wanted to respond to. Read all of my posts on this thread IN CONTEXT. Yes, technically James only promised to complete his sets, he never said what he'd do with them. And I could donate to a non-profit hospital building fund and they could convert the building to for-profit condos and claim, "we just said we'd build something."

The New Voyages folks provided me with many hours of viewing pleasure before I donated, so I consider the whole thing a wash. However, to pretend I donated to complete James' sets so he could set-up a for-profit tour is insulting to me. You mistake me for an idiot. I cannot be fooled into thinking I was not misled. It's not the first time I've been tricked, and if it's the last I'll be surprised. Would that the few bucks had been the worst thing I'd ever lost to fraud.

Is the set tour a "for profit" deal?

I have no knowledge of the details of the license deal, but I would imagine it is. And as licensor, CBS would get a share of the take one way or another.

Is the set a for-profit deal? Of course it is. But it should be obvious to anyone paying attention that Mr. Cawley is putting money into new set items all the time. That giant model Enterprise they are building right now costs money. Building new sets and props costs money. Everything in that museum costs money. I imagine that most of the profits are going right back into this venture to keep it looking awesome.

As for those fan films, it would be nice to see them get finished, but I won't lose any sleep if I don't see them. There are at least a dozen New Voyages fan films on the internet to enjoy.

I only really only want to see 'Torment', since it was one of Richard Hatch's last performances. If i don't see the others that would be ok.

That was mentioned over on the big Axanar thread, and I and others couldn't remember if we'd seen a list somewhere. Finally found Peters' proposed list on Axamonitor

Same reason he sent emails to people high up the CBS food chain detailing the activities of other fan film makers.

To be the guy that everybody looks to, and also to be a textbook case of "do as I say not as I do" :D

He likes to portray himself as gatekeeper of all Trek, father of all future Trek.

I like to call him His Most Precious Lord Alex, Heir Apparent(ly Not). :techman:
