I'm not sure how they arrive at what characters belong to what license, but I believe Kang is lumped in with Fantastic Four because of those later revelations that he was Rama Tut and his ties Reed Richards. I guess it's under the logic that Ego the Living Planet was somehow under the FF license even though Ego first appeared in Thor:

Kang would be a good after credits reveal on the FF time travel idea, though. It could be under the idea that Kang was manipulating things in a grand plot that ends up involving the Avengers and everyone in the MCU (basically making Kang the Thanos figure of a new MCU connective plot).

My own thought on it was that if/when the rights revert back to Marvel, Marvel should make two Fantastic Four films back-to-back: one a sixties era origin film ending with the team caught frozen in time (ala Captain America), except without having made a name for themselves so that no one really knew they were; the second film would be the team being rescued in the 2020's and getting set-up as heroes in the 21st century. But Marvel would release the "modern" film first and the "origin" film second (so that they can still have an origin film without burning people out on the concept).

Actually, I believe he's the descendant of Victor Von Doom. The character's first appearance was in "The Avengers" Issue #8 so yeah, I think he would be classed as an "Avengers" villain although he did have a few run ins with the FF as well.

Most sources give his actual name as "Nathaniel Richards". I'd like to think he is a descendant of both.

Oh, I could have sworn I read somewhere he was their son who got sent into the future. Maybe I was confusing him with Cable.

If marvel got back the rights my idea would start in the 70's.

Hank Pym and the fantastic four are secret warriors.

    We flash to now

Sokovia is gone. A ruthless dictator Victor Von Doom moves into the space once occupied by Sokovia.

The U.N does not officially recognize Dr.Dooms new country.

Doom threatens the world. Fantastic Four unite after being inspired by the avengers

I don't know - if they're hoping for a return on their property they can't just let the rights lapse. They announced that they were moving forward with a follow up to the last movie a couple of months ago, and now this, which may or may not be the same project.

Put it this way - they probably know they've blown it and that it's beyond their capabilities to salvage, but if it's still ostensibly a going concern, it's not valueless.

Marvel want the rights back and instead of handing them over, they could sell them or trade for more X-Men related stuff, or even bargain for shared ownership of an FF in the MCU. Getting a chunk of the proceeds without having to make the movies could be their best outcome.

The Doom stuff sounds a lot the kind of thing I've thought would be a good approach to him, but I'm not sure about the FF in the '70s part. It's gonna be pretty limiting if we're going to start the team in their '50s or '60. Robert Downey Jr. is already getting up there for this kind of stuff at 52, and chances are the FF actors would have to be even older than that if we want to have them in the 20s or 30s in the 70s.

So, having apparently given up on a real FF movie, they're trying to see if they can make some money off of random parts of the license and even if the movies fail they at least help them keep the Fantastic Four rights. I can't wait until they pull a Sony and start giving every FF villain a movie. Asbestos Man: The Movie. Coming Fall 2021

With a name like Noah Hawley behind it, people are going to give the Doctor Doom movie some respect.

I just read through this thread. Lol at people trying to figure out Kang. I swear every appearance of his is a retcon. Every single one. Every time he appears, something is different from before.

Always in motion the future is.

Normally, I would be very dismissive of Fox's attempts to do a Doctor Doom solo movie, but because Noah Hawley is developing it, I'm instead rather keen about the production. I love what he did with Legion.

I didn't even pay attention to what the guy has done before. So, since its the same guy from Legion, I guess it will be a Dr. Doom movie that is completely style over substance? Well, I guess after Fant4stic FOX will try literally anything but putting in the effort to make a good, standard superhero movie.

FOX is holding onto the rights just to spite fans at this point.

They will ALWAYS suck with the Fantastic Four!

LET THE RIGHTS REVERT BACK TO MARVEL!

The only thing you can do to send Fox a message is not to pay for whatever FF they release. And hope everyone else does the same. Fant4stic was a big step in that direction. :)

Well, remember, Constantin Films technically owns the rights. From what I've heard, they'll go back to pulling a Corman FF (purposefully making a movie they don't intend to release) just to keep the rights if they have to. FOX is a partner in this, but even if they completely give up on the FF it doesn't mean Marvel is going to get the rights back, unfortunately.

I ended up losing track of them after a while, but what I saw of both Legion and Fargo were great. I think the fact that Hawley is involved, gives the Doom movie the most potential of anything Fox has done with the FF up to this point.

They can't get Doom right in an FF movie, and they want to spin him off...?

Well, I'm thinking this will probably be a totally new version of Doom. Third (or fourth if you want to count the Corman movie) time's the charm?
