I won't pass judgement on Discovery just yet. I will give it a go and will post what I think about it afterwards. However, in recent times I am becoming increasingly annoyed with the number of contrived female lead movies we've had. Both the new Star Wars movies had featured female leads who fit this description. It is over the top PC nonsense.

Don't get me wrong, I like women in strong roles. My two favourite movies of all time are Terminator and Aliens and both featured very strong female leads. Ripley is arguably the best female action lead of all time.

Both Michelle Yeoh and Martin-Green are good actors but I feel they themselves maybe compromised in trying to deliver something that appeases the neo-PC brigade.

I am becoming increasingly annoyed with the number of contrived male lead movies we've had. You know, almost every movie ever.

I don't think you understand what contrived means.

Why is it contrived if there's a female lead but not contrived if there's a male lead? And if Voyager did it successfully, why is it a problem now?

More reason why it should be done again and again and more brilliantly.

You should add that some of your favourite movies of all time feature strong male leads.

I'm becoming increasingly bemused with the number of inflammatory topics and posts about gender being made in this forum by new posters within a few days of registering here. There's something...peculiar about it.

Did you read my OP? I am hoping Discovery has not jumped on the bandwagon of contrived female leads. I cited two examples.

I have no issue with this whatsoever provided it is not contrived. Yeoh and Martin-Green are good actors so I hope they get to play their parts like they normally do and not have to fit any neo-PC mould. That is what I'm getting at.

As soon as you put PC and nonsense together, your intellectual credibility drops to near zero. Not a good start.

Oh no! Women with authority! My dick just shrunk! Star Trek is doomed!

Why don't TPTB realize the franchise needs a muscle-bound male lead who is constantly losing his shirt, which is two sizes too small anyway? That's the kind of thing that keeps my dick big and strong and is totally what this show needs if it is going to succeed in its goal to Make Star Trek Great Again!

Another thread about BS. I'll be glad when we actually have something real to discuss.

    Beat me to the punch!

As for the OP, it shouldn't matter if the lead is male, female, straight, gay, bi, trans, white, black, yellow, red, green or purple with pink polka dots. Is it a good story? Great! That's all that matters.

Star Trek is supposed to be about diversity. Or is that not the case when a white male isn't in the captain's chair? That is so stupid. It's the 21st century looking at a fictionalized 23rd century. Why do we have to make such a big deal about this? Why do we have to discuss this being contrived? It's ridiculous.

    My advice?
    Get. Over. It.
    Or don't watch.
    The choice is yours.

How does one fit a neo-PC mould?

    What makes it contrived?
