I've missed the last 4 episodes this season. Now, I could wait untill it hits netflix (hoping that happens in the Netherlands before the Xmas special) and then watch all of it. But I really want to see the season finale. I undestand last night's episode is a must see, but what about the others? Last episode I saw was the second episode of the Monks threeparter. Can I skip all of those for now, and just find a way to see last night's episode and be all caught up before next weeks finale?
Well, why not? You've got nothing to lose, really. That being said, they do slightly build on the Doctor's reluctant willingness to reach Missy so...
Time. I dunno, maybe this sounds harsh, but I never understand how people have time to binchwatch 5 shows in three days. I've got work, stuff to do around the house, spend time with my girlfriend, she has to do work (we both watch the show), social stuff. So, honestly, I don't know if we have time during the week to actually watch 4 episodes.
The three parter left me pretty bored during the second episode, it was around that point I lost some interest for this season, which started of amazing!
I would say you could likely get buy without watching them, you might not get everything out of them, but "Empress of Mars" and "Eaters of Light" were better than the 3 parter (Or at least I enjoyed them more)
Echoing what others have said, skip the trilogy (although I'm in the minority about liking "Extremis"), but "Empress of Mars" and "Eaters of Light" are great, but not essential episodes.
I still haven't watched Eaters of Light... I had given up on this series and only tuned in again for Simm. Amazing episode!!!!
So is it generally acceptable to skip Empress of Mars and The Eaters of Light (okay episodes but not important)? I would like to watch them eventually, but I would also like to just pick up World Enough and Time sometime this week and watch the finale this weekend. The three-parter really soured me this season :/
Yes. What little Missy development there is in those episodes can be pretty easily inferred from the beginning of "World Enough and Time." Heck, my mom only saw "The Pilot" but I think even that is sufficient for getting up to speed with the 2-part finale. "Empress of Mars" is a fun standalone. I wasn't impressed with "Eaters of Light." As for the Monks 3-parter, it's way too much time spent on such a dull idea. (They should have spent more time playing around with Missy during the 2nd half of the season instead.) But the 3rd part of the Monks trilogy is probably the best, if only for Capaldi's performance.
I'm glad me and the hubby weren't the only ones bored by the trilogy. Just about made it through part two and then didn't watch again. We've just started a week off work today and thus caught up. Really really glad we did.
I think the Monks three-parter is, basically, a six-parter in disguise, to give Capaldi something to feel satisfy himself as an old-timer fan.
