Perhaps. But, let's see them in action.
Amazing. Is there a Kelvin univese one of these?
Then the color coded underwear might bother you.

Or maybe people don't like them because they look like shit?

The maroons are overwhelmingly the most popular uniforms in the whole fandom and they certainly weren't familiar and samey.

But these are just awful. They have a unflattering drape. The lines and contours don't mesh well. And the color choice is just plain fugly.

Also it's hard to claim originality or doing something different when they're literally orange and teal dressings set in orange and teal backgrounds. I suppose they're trying to blend in like chameleons for when the Rommies attack?

There's not a Kelvin one, but that's not a bad idea. Probably not right away since DSC is kind of at the top of mind right now.

BTW here's the link to the higher-res image

I felt like I was analyzing the Zapruder films--I think I know every frame of that trailer by heart now!

P.S. I firmly believe they have division-colored skivvies!

Well, I hope the Kelvin one gets some love someday :) But, the DSC one is great, and thanks for the high rez graphic. That's some great details, and will certainly not be edited to different fan ideas :techman:

Just tell me when you found the shooter, ok? ;)

ThinkGeek couldn't sell them if it wasn't true Starfleet issue.

So far I'm loving pretty much most of what's been shown, but I do have to admit that when it comes to the uniforms, I find I'd like those to remain a little more familiar for some reason. Beyond that, I'm liking what I'm seeing and find the changes refreshing.

To be honest, I find the maroons to look like shit. Hell I prefer the TMP pajama's over the maroons because I like different colors for different departments. Didn't care for TWOK design at all.

I didn't like the color, although I know it was done to make the cast stand out more strongly from the grays of the set, without returning to the colors of the original series. Also it was not an appropriate service or working uniform for a ship environment. When you look at what is worn aboard actual ships, they usually go for something lighter and more practical than the service dress uniform with jacket. A shirt top is appropriate and functional in that situation.

Remember the old uniform thread? The new "tactical armor/vest" seems like a nice recall of STTMP while updating it to a ST Online sensibility. It's a nice, measured design that doesn't come off too extreme.

I'm curious if it follows my suggestion as an energy damper/re-director rather than a kevlar-style impact armor.

I like the armor. Not sure yet how effective it will be, but it seems like a good thing to have available.

Yeah I would presume it's not formal body armor after all it's the 23rd Century so some kind of energy dispersion material makes way more sense. Looks more like some basic environmental protection for away missions like a bikers protective suit and hearkens directly to the Cage's utility equipment. A belt that holds the communicator and phaser in easy access pouches and the vest similar to the jacket used as added protection. Sure not a visual 1 for 1 but it sure makes that connection in terms of what personnel would use off ship when exploring or conditions are less than ideal.

Yeah... Really disliking the rank pips on the insignia. Way too small and way too TNG.

To be fair pips were in use in ENT as well so I get using them. However I agree they are way too tiny. I get the whole HD thing now a days but it's kinda pushing it. I'd still prefer to have seen a variation on the use of rank stripes but I also understand that would have just added to the already super metallic and flashy uniforms. Much in terms of point and counter-point.

I actually think it offers a nice visual change to the navy blue uniforms, and I think it works well in contrast. It doesn't have the look like contemporary ballistic armor, or even the armor used in TWOK. It think the contrast with the more retro-future look of the uniforms is great.
