Except two of the five primary characters since season one were not white males. Now four of the seven primary cast members aren't white guys.

And "Two and a Half Men" before that. What complete drek that was.

George Takei was just on AM Joy, taking down the social media trolls decrying Discovery as "white genocide."

This is so stupid, Star Trek has always had ethnically diverse casts (although on TOS the three main leads were admittedly all white guys). But then again stupid is what to expect from the alt-right. I'm not generally one to harp on diversity in a cast, but I would have been disappointed if for some reason they'd done a bunch of white people since having lots of different races together is part of the tradition of Star Trek.

I've seen people flip out at DSC's new look and that they're including LGBT characters (you know, 20 years after the rest of of the world), but I've not seen anyone complain about race. But I'm only really here and one or two Facebook groups.

I saw that too. The only good thing on the news. He looked rather tired.

    Potter?

    Mudd?

This is a made up news story. They found a few comments on social media and wrote some articles with a greatly exaggerated headlines to get clicks. Some of the comments they alluded to were fairly benign.

Have you not read any of the Youtube comments about the show?

If aliens came to visit us and read Youtube comments first, they'd decide we deserve to be nuked from orbit asap.
I hope you're not saying Youtube comments are representative of... well... anything.

The great thing about being a mod is that I can use the board system to access people's webcams. Here's what I found when I tried yours:

Seriously, though, it's certainly a problem. But I do believe it's a loud and ugly minority. The same is true for all those internet hate groups.

Sorry, I've just happened to be trawling through, it's pretty depressing, especially if you choose to engage with these people directly. They make our somewhat veiled far right trolls seem pretty tame.

Thanks for the pic by the way, but my wife would doubtless be put out it isn't one of her Sphinxes :)

Shocking details about Discovery just revealed:
    - All action takes place abroad.
    - They seek new life and new civilizations, instead of running from them.
    - They made space black.

There was an actual published sf story whose writer was paid for his work that was about aliens intercepting old Star Trek broadcasts and deciding that our view of the universe made us too dangerous to other species, so they destroyed us.

Are you thinking of The Killing Star by Charles R. Pellegrino and George Zebrowski?
