Do you think Picard really would have tried "The Game"?

In the episode The Game it seems out of character for Picard to have fallen victim to it. Obviously its a necessary part of the plot and couldn't possibly have worked if he didn't, unless there was an all out mutiny, which actually may have been interesting. But anyway I just don't think it fits with the Picard character. I mean Crusher had to order the man to take a vacation and when he finally did all he wanted to do was sit there and read. It just doesn't seem like he would have tried that game, what do you think?

I think he would have humored it, expecting to think it was silly and dismiss it.

Think Beverly would have pestered him until he tried it to get her out of his hair (like she did with her stage plays).

The game addicted from the minute you put it on (at least that's how I always interpreted it). Left to his own devices I don't believe Picard would have become an avid user, but I could definitely see him humoring Riker or Beverly by agreeing to try it for just a minute or two, and then from that point he was hooked.

It's funny how stupid the game always seemed (who would really play this simple floating disk thing?), until iPhone games came along. Now this ep feels ahead of it's time...

And for someone to get into Picard's hair, they must really be annoying.

Patrick Stewart would try it in a minute
    Picard, not so much

Seriously though, I agree with the idea that Crusher could have pestered him to the point that he would have tried it, just to appease her.

This bugged me too about this episode, however...

Perhaps Picard would try it on just to humor someone who suggested it, or maybe Picard was forced to use it, like it was put on Wesley near the end of the episode. After he was hooked, he might forget the incident.

It would be hard to imagine Picard trying it on by himself, he might look it just being a fad.

The only difference between The Game and iPhone games is that rather than get you to stage a coup against your government, they get you to make a large number of micropayments.

Refresh my memory please, do we actually see Picard voluntarily putting on the headset? If not maybe he had no interest and they forced it on him like they tried to do with Wesley.

From what I can recall from that episode the players response to the game was like they were having a very minute orgasm every time the player got the disc in the hole. No wonder it was addictive.... 24th century sexual golf.

No you don't see the 1st time he tries it. You only find out after Wesley discovers the damaging side effects and reports them to Picard, you find out then that he has already fallen victim to it.

People under the spell of the game seemed to be completely controlled, willing to tell lies and participate in a conspiracy. I was unclear if that happened from the first time you tried it. Or did it just feel like something fun or good? I would like to imagine Picard realizing what was happening before it had complete control of him.

What is strange is that no one of the crew (except for Wesley and Lefler of course) seems to get alarmed noticing the game's extremely addicting effects on others before they get to try it themselves (and then, logically, should refuse). Can't believe too many officers on the Enterprise would be capable of that level of incompetence, to paraphrase Riker from another ep.

Robin Lefler and Welsey Crusher were stereotypical Mary Sue and Gary Stu in this episode.

I think he might have tried it when he had nothing better to do. or if someone insisted he try it out once.

I watched that episode last night and when they were in 10 Forward, it reminded me of all of us on our idiot box phones.
There's a reason they are called I phones.

    Mine's called an Android. :p

There is a great moment in "Warm Bodies" where a sentient zombie muses to himself on how warm and friendly everyone must have been to each other before the outbreak, and there's a momentary flashback in an airport to everyone using their phones and similar devices. Funny, but also ouch.

I think the captain would have tried it, assuming he hadn't already seen many others try it and become instantly addicted. He has so few chances to cut lose, and a computer game he can play in private? Sure. Why not? It's not like he couldn't put it down if he didn't like it. That is, he had no reason to think that, particularly when close friends gave it to him and urged him to try it. So yeah, he sure would. But not while on duty!

Beverly had him eating a daily breakfast he couldn't stand, just because he didn't want to hurt her feelings. Of course he'd have gotten roped in
