Absolutely. I was actually shocked when I saw someone on another board state they would rather Star Trek never film another episode or film than see more of Abrams' Star Trek. While I can respect that opinion, I cannot fathom it.

I’ve seen the trailer a couple of times now and I’m really excited to see some new Trek on TV after +10 years :D.

I know the producers stated that it takes place in the Prime Timeline but I just tell myself that the show takes place in an alternate reality. If I have to rationalize all the changes my head would probably explode. Besides, it’s not that Star Trek ever had a great track record when it comes to continuity. Just look at how Worf’s appearance changed on TNG from season 1 to season 7.

Technology changes, people change … If we, as fans, want Trek to continue and prosper in the 21st century we should accept that things don’t have to look like they did 30 or 50 years ago. This is a TV-show after all, not a historical documentary on National Geographic.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm a total hardware geek and require cool looking new stuff to look at. If this trailer came out and the Shenzhou looked like a warmed over 1701, complete with cardboard turbolift doors, I'd be out. Continuity be damned! Can't wait to see the new transporter and engine rooms.

Oh yes! Engineering is one thing I'm really curious about. I know there were (and still are) grumbles over the Kelvinverse Engineering sets, but I loved that finally the scale of the engines were finally realised and I really liked the location choice for the warp core for Into Darkness and how they blended it all together.

I doubt we'd have that scale of an engine room on a TV budget - even with this budget! - but I'm curious to see what they come up with or if they return to the magic light shows.

Of course, thats even assuming engineering is a big deal for either ship. So far there's been no engineer in the announcements and if this is more political/talky (an assumption, but I reckon a safe one) I can't see the need to build an extensive set. Thinking of Battlestar we saw an engine room only once or twice in the whole run. It wasn't important there, and I'm not sure if it would be now.

I think that they will try and stick to the broad strokes of the "main timeline" as we have come to know it (ie up to VOY/INS and factoring in ENT). I think any changes they make will likely either be minor background stuff (contradicting incidental dialogue or easter eggs from props etc (which is a mammoth job to keep straight and arguably sometimes fun to try and reconcile) and not the significant world changing stuff like "the destruction of Vulcan" and "Khan as a Section 31 agent" or "Kirk as a Captain straight out the Academy" stuff that is characteristic of the more dynamic and divert continuity of the Kelvin Timeline.

Right, the producers are presenting this series as using the old continuity but with a modern visual aesthetic that uses modern technology and design sensibilities in order to appeal to modern audiences.

More like some get "taken to court" (Although in the latest case of this - IMO CBS and Paramount were 100% justified and correct to do so - YVMV on that of course ;).)

After watching some Trekyards videos about the trailer. I found something to describe them in a nutshell: "It's too advanced". They say that a lot.
But it's not a bad channel. I'm looking forward to DIS. :techman:

They are eanting it to look like the 1960s, this is silly but you see it repeated again, and again.

"This technology is too advanced for the 23rd century." is my favourite complaint ever.

More accurate would be "this tech is too advanced for what we've seen of Star Trek's 23rd century". And, it is. But life goes on.

More accurate is that each show is limited in its depiction of the future by its budget and the technology available at the time it is being made. As time goes by, it's only natural that TV series can present ever more futuristic representations of the future.

I can't put my finger on it but this looks off. Everything about it looks off. I'll still give it a chance. Beyond's promotion was awful but it ended up being pretty good overall. But I don't like the tone it's setting. It seems off in tone, way too dark and right away it's got message issues. It's set 10 years before Spock, Kirk and the Enterprise, well technically all those guys are in starfleet 10 years before the series began if you go by cannon so it's basically set during the TOS time really. Yet the uniforms and sets look like a mix between Enterprise and TOS when it's supposed to be TOS era basically. The Klingon's look like a completely different alien from cannon. I got a feeling it'll just spit in the face of those that love Trek for what it is and make it it's own new thing. So maybe it's not for someone like me. Kinda like Kelvinverse Trek probably isn't for me. But overall I'll still give it a shot.

Why is something that is trying to do its own thing considered a "spit in the face"? I would've liked something stylistically closer to TOS, but I don't think the creators making different choices is them somehow trying to offend me.

Honestly, I was kind of shocked by how much I thought the trailer felt like Star Trek.
