    10.1 The Pilot: Overnights: 4.64 million / Live + Timeshifted: 6.68 million / AI Figure: 83 / Chart Postion: 10 (6 in Individual Series)
    10.2 Smile: Overnights: 4.25 million / Live + Timeshifted: 5.98 million / AI Figure: 83 / Chart Postion: 22 (10 in Individual Series)
    10.3 Thin Ice: Overnights: 3.76 million / Live + Timeshifted: 5.61 million / AI Figure: 84 / Chart Postion: 25 (13 in Individual Series)
    10.4 Knock Knock: Overnights: 4.32 million /
    Live + Timeshifted: 5.73 million / AI Figure: 83 / Chart Postion: 21 (9 in Individual Series)
    10.5 Oxygen: Overnights: 3.57 million /
    Live + Timeshifted: 5.27 million* / AI Figure: 83 / Chart Postion: 26 (12 in Individual Series)

*This is well down on 9.5 but that particular episode was the second-highest rated of the series thanks to the publicity surrounding Maisie Williams appearance. In fact, despite being a great episode it now has the distinction of being the least watched episode since the series returned in 2005.

I see Extremis has the lowest AI of the season which seems odd, still 82 which isn't terrible. Least the overnights were up. I think Eurovision definitely had some impact on Oxygen.

For much the same reason that Heaven Sent only got an 80 despite it's reception from Fandom. The General Audience prefer more straight forward episodes.

I assume people are just using catchup streaming these days, i know personally i don't bother watching it anymore and just wait for the BR release.(Does the US have iplayer or similar for catchup stuff?)

Many cable companies let you watch On Demand a few days after airing, some networks you can watch streaming off the internet, and then, of course, you can watch through iTunes--that, of course, the last one, wouldn't count towards viewership and ad revenue.

So, halfway through the series and the average is 5.8 million vs 6.04 million for Series 9. That's about a 4% drop. Interestingly if one compares the figures for Eastenders, the BBC's most popular ongoing series, over the same timeframe, they've had an 8% drop, so it's actually holding up quite well.

America on the other hand, just gets worse...

And a quick heads-up. Expect the overnight ratings for this Saturday's episode to hit an all-time low as ITV have moved the final of Britain's Got Talent against it to avoid clashing with the Manchester Tribute Concert on Sunday.

I guess America had Memorial Day if one's looking for excuses.

Makes me really start to think they will go one of two ways...

Cast a complete unknown, ala Matt Smith and hope they can capture ratings lightning in a bottle once again.. OR... Stunt cast with a big name or woman purely to grab notice in the media and generate viewers that way.

While i'm not opposed to a woman being cast by any means, I don't want them to do it for the wrong reasons...

If they cast a woman, how will you decide if they did it for the right or wrong reasons?

Personal choice, I guess.. Good question, though.

I don't care if the Doctor is a man or a woman.. I just want the right ACTOR for the role and I want the show to succeed.. I'm disappointed by the downturn in ratings and that always makes me fear they will decide to mothball it for a few years. Granted, there may come a time when that's a good idea, but I'm not ready for it yet..

It's kind of always been my opinion that Capaldi was the Doctor for the old school fans like myself... And while I LOVE him as the Doctor, I'm not unaware that his tenure has been witness to the show falling out of favor of the "in crowd" that is decidedly in the 25 and under age group. While we can argue that "who cares" if it's cool, it certainly, in this day and age, can dictate how well the show is supported by the powers that be.

There's not really a downturn in ratings in the UK--at least not one that exceeds the overall downturn.

In the US, I suspect that it's due to the inconsistent broadcast of new episodes. If that's the case, I suspect that the BBC will push the new showrunner to stick to a regular production schedule. And, when I say "push," I mean require!

I think we now know the base level of dedicated Who watchers in the UK with Lie of the Land scaping just over 3 million against the BGT Final. It should get an above average Timeshift figure though.

Up again in everything but AI this week, in fact the second-highest chart positions of the series to date.

Unfortunately, or fortunately considering the quality of the episode, baring an unprecedented Timeshift figure Episode 8 is going to make history and not in a good way...

Does this season stick to the same time slot ever week or is it all over the place again?

I can't imaging ever going back to a time when you had to wait until the TV was ready to show said programe. lol

I kind of stoppped these because it was becoming too depressing but here are the Series Averages now that the time-shifted figures for "The Doctor Falls" are in with the previous few years for comparison.

    Series 10 Viewers: 5.64m Audience Share: 27% AI: 83 Chart Position: 20
    Series 09 Viewers: 6.16m Audience Share: 25.5% AI: 83 Chart Position: 23
    Series 08 Viewers: 7.34m Audience Share: 29% AI: 83 Chart Position: 13
    Series 07 Viewers: 8.16m Audience Share: 33% AI: 86 Chart Position: 12

So from Matt Smith's last year to now 30% of the audience has gone and even taking into consideration the ever decreasing ratings for just about everything on television the Audience Share/Chart Position are noticably down. (Though Series 10 is up on Series 9 which would suggest this is a better time of year for the Series to air).

AI has dropped from being consistantly above averge (85) to consistantly below it, though without being able to see the actual audience reports there's no way of knowing if it's because of Capaldi or the scripts or what.

Well, now that Capaldi is leaving, it looks like the choice to be made (that has already been made, of course) is to either go bold with the New Doctor or go Safe, as they have already changed writers...
