I kinda feel like it would be odd for the Klingons to talk about the Hur'q invasion and the gods which they killed as separate incidents if they were suppose to be the same species, though. They talk about the invasion and pillaging done by the Hur'q in very literal terms, but everything they say about the old gods is more legendary and mythic...and the fact they call them 'gods'.

They suck. Just like the uniforms. And appear to be needless continuity errors. Also like the crappy uniforms. But we'll see. Maybe they have explanations given in the episodes.

I wonder why they chose not to give them hair? It's like they've gone for the ugliest versions of Klingon they could find.. but maybe they just belong to a particular sect or something.

    Not every Klingon needs hair.

Not every Klingon needs hair, but some should have hair.

Its like suddenly every person, females and males, decided to shave all the hair off their body.

Its like they saw that one klingon in Into Darkness and decided that after this all klingons should be shaved. Even though there are concept art of Into Darkness klingons having hair and beard.

It could be some lost cult or sect from earlier in Klingon history.

And Klingons in Into Darkness had hair too, under their helmets. Just the leader happened to not, as well as General Chang as another example.

Since these Klingons appear to be participating in some sort of ritual, my gut instinct is that this is not meant to represent the Empire as a whole.
    Ninja'd. Well put.

There's been rumors that there is a Klingon sarcophagus ship that is discovered. So that is where my money lies. ;)

I hope they don't. Strict continuity makes boring stories. We don't need to know why starship designers went through a weird phase where they got obsessed with the 1960s of Earth.

That would be the thing to do, if they wanted people to stop watching.

This. Even though I disagree with some of the creative choices, they don't need to try and explain them in the episodes.

Maybe they're actually their time-traveling cousins from the planet Chronos: Klingoffs.

I don't think there should be some long-winded continuity-obsessed explanation that throws everything out of flow with a bunch of unneeded meaningless details. I know that we detail-oriented sci-fi aficionados tend to want that type of pointless exposition for some unfathomable reason. :wtf: But it contributes absolutely nothing to the actual story.

A quick throwaway soundbite one-liner will do just fine, thank you.

This is obviously the product of the first version of the ridge restoring cure that had a side effect of baldness. ;)

They don't need to. No one would stop watching if they did. I want to meet the person who says "OMG! They said these Klingons are a genetic off-shoot! I refuse to watch this crappy show anymore!" Absolutely no one would do that. But it's not some weird idea that if it's the Prime timeline, it should look like the Prime timeline in terms of things like the appearance of the Klingons. But this is probably best seen as a reimagined Trek that is more or less like the Prime timeline in that Vulcan didn't get blown up, Kirk father and Spocks mother are alive, etc, but that's all. It's a third timeline, basically.

If the explanation affects the pacing, yes, there will be a loss of viewership.

Explaining things, like why the uniforms look the way they do, is actually one of the things that the TOS Writer's Guide explicitly said not to do.

"Matt Dillon [of Gunsmoke] never identifies and discusses the breed of his horse before he rides off on it."

What kind of boots Dillon is wearing is even more trivial than the breed of his horse!
