It would be done satirically. That is, mocking and making fun of the original's racism.

TMOTTH is utterly terrible-it's portrayal of Vulcans is wrong and just downright repulsive, Sisko acts like an asshole and the Romulan lite I mean Vulcan captain acts like an asshole-Sisko acts like "Vulcans are assholes and this captain is a big one so I'm gonna be a bigger asshole to show this asshole whose boss." But yeah it does go unfortunately with DS9's life philosophy-passion, love and emotion-not stoicism, discipline and unyielding logic-Roddenberry humanity.

Fascination-the Jake/Kira stuff is like being forced to swallow dog vomit and talk about how amazing it is naked on live television. The other parts aren't so hellish.

The Odo romance standalone-that was painful one shot romances in Trek fail more than not but that made me gasp in agony.

Fields of Fire--more insulting to Vulcans TOS viewers and sensible Homo sapiens

The Maquis-not only are the Maquis downright pathetic-seriously I'm sympathetic to the Maquis as much as you'll find in a trek fan but their made so insufferable in this episode(characters). PS-why didn't they electrocute or cut off Dukat's neck scales I dunno something more intimidating? Sakonna makes ENT Vulcans look good in comparison. And you could tell the actress was struggling-she was attractive though.

For the Uniform-I'm an Eddington fan and the episode wants us to believe all the Maquis colonists were totally right next to their ships and they all got away fine-no sorry I don't believe that.

The season 7 ep-with the Bajoran/Romulan standoff I know they want you to root for Kira but this only further perplexes me-DS9 is supposed to be the sophisticated Trek yet the audience isn't supposed to see that um the alliance with the Romulans is more important than keeping the good colonel happy. If I was Ross I would have told Kira fighting breaks out I'm not going to support you.

"Captive Pursuit" early in season 1 actually has a scene where Sisko discovers Quark has been requiring the Dabo girls to have sex with him, even writing it into their contracts that it's a requirement of the job, and Sisko bans him from doing so now that Starfleet is administering the station. It doesn't bother me at all here, it is a fine starting point for Quark. It just stops working by the time we get to "Profit And Lace" in late season 6.

And the PaL staging is worse -- the Dabo girl in season 1 is outraged by the demand. In season 6, we have a Dabo girl named Allura, whose only quality is that she's alluring, who has just enough lines to establish that her initial resistance was mere coyness, and she actually gets really turned on from being extorted for sex by her employer.

Ah, of course, they were from Dumbo! And I'd certainly agree that there are plenty of worse examples of racist cartoons (just none popped to mind when I was writing that post), but the Dumbo crows are, at best, problematic. The main one is named Jim Crow! They perform a jive-talking minstrel show number, they're presented as poor and uneducated, watching today it all just feels distasteful. That being said, I definitely recognize that within the context of the time, they were actually going for something progressive with this, by portraying the crows as also being the friendly, helpful characters, so you can't indict them totally.

That makes it an interesting counterpoint to Profit And Lace -- they thought they were making an hour of television that advocated for women getting equal rights, and in the process they made an hour of TV that was also horrifically sexist. No intention, just obliviousness.

Now that I'm older I enjoy Emissary a lot more. I used to think it was a slog, and could never sit through it on account of the Prophets and their cheesy hokum. For being of tremendous power, they aren't very smart.

As you say though, the Wolf 359 battle was wonderfully realised. Still one of my favourite space combat scenes in Trek canon, just slightly behind the Jem'Hadar v. USS Odyssey.

I also now really appreciate the visual design of the station in Emissary. Collapsed bulkheads, rubble, smoke, and general yucky feel. It's very unfortunate that the creators abandoned this vision so readily and transformed DS9's interior into yet another sterile 24th century Trek environ by the second episdoe. We only saw the original vision realised again in Things Past (turning the lights off to create Empok Nor doesn't come close). By the time we got to Wrongs Darker Than Death Or Night, Terok Nor was portrayed as every bit as sterile as DS9.

"Sons of Mogh" - terrible moral decision by Worf and Bashir at the end. Completely out of character imo.

"Profit and Lace", "Bar Association", "Ferengi Love Songs" and so on - Pretty much all of the Ferengi episodes that didn't focus almost totally on Quark.

"Let He Who is Without Sin" - I really prefer TNG Worf to DS9 Worf

"Fascination" - Lwaxana Troi. 'nuff said

"Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang" and "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" are both bad episodes made worse by their placement in the the seventh season. Both seem like pet episodes that the writers wanted to squeeze in before the show left the air. They should have taken a cue from TNG and used some of the "filler" episodes in this season for callbacks to earlier episodes. Like maybe fixing the godawful "Sons of Mogh."

"Doctor Bashir, I Presume" - not exactly terrible, but it is a big misstep for the character. Who thought this was necessary?

It's been a loooong time since I've watched the episode. I don't think I've watched it in at least 5 years. I need to check it out again, as I don't remember all the details. It's hard to go wrong with Robert Picardo though.

I agree. This was just plain daft, and Avery Brooks was a bit too excited during the final scene at Quark's.

The ep is still worth watching though for that priceless scene where Kira throws her arms up in despair at Rom being incapable of throwing a ball more than five feet.

It's hard to pick but I would say all of the ones between 'Emissary' and 'What You Leave Behind'.

This is in no way productive and comes very close to trolling. I get that DS9 isn't everybody's cup of tea, and that's fine, but just driving by to say every episode sucks is not a good way to make friends here. Please keep that in mind when posting here in the future.

I'm not the biggest worshipper of DS9 either but that's not a proper reply. Either your trolling or you don't need to be on this board(section at least).

Have to disagree (respectfully) with the comments about Rom and Leeta. They do come off as stupid but it's an act. Rom was bullied by Quark into hiding his mechanical intelligence and is just beginning to realize his own capabilities around Season 7. Leeta's actual job is to be a brainless piece of eye candy, and she plays that role well, but she actually has quite a bit of intelligence. For instance, she's highly interested in sociology, We just don't see it much in the show because the plot focused more on the main group of key characters.
