Sorry, I was being a little fasicious, I should have put a blinky eye at the end to indicate I wasn't being serious in my post, I actually agree with you, they are needlessly similar.

Yeah, I kinda guessed that. That's why I went with the slightly sarcastic reply and not the full on nerd-rage reply ...

I didn't remember what the cover for the German version looks like. You'd think if they were going to make a new cover Titan would have just created something totally new, rather than just changing up the German one a bit.

Perhaps they wanted to show more of the ship. In the German version you don't see the shape of the ship because of the more dynamic angle, the ship swooping toward the reader. The English version shows us the whole ship, but it looks a litte less dramatic.

I kinda like the German cover better. It has the sense of the Prometheus in motion, flying away while the station goes boom. In the other version, it just kinda sits there.

I am nearly finished with book three and very much agree with Kilana2.

I love them and enjoy the audiobook. Fingers crossed we get a sequel at some point.

Not me. I *really* miss that stylized "Prometheus" logo. Its change to a generic-looking sans typeface (appears to be Trade Gothic Bold Condensed?) really hurts it.

Still looking forward to reading the book of course. But... why would they do that?

Branding and Marketing reasons, I personally prefer the new title design, it meshes better with the other Trek novels.

Well, personal taste is, er, personal. :)

I've done a bit of searching, and as far as I can tell at the moment, it doesn't look like that logo was done with a traditional typeface. Instead, it appears that the letters were created as images by an artist, Mikhail Bakunovich, and released through Shutterstock, and other stock image services.

    P R O M E T H U S (not a typo, just didn't feel the need to link to 'E' twice... ;) )

So I don't pretend to know how Shutterstock works, but I guess it's possibly a licensing issue, and Titan just doesn't have license to use those images?

At any rate... I still think they should have tried to do something with a character similar to the original logo. The new Trade Gothic version just seems uninspired and boring.

"Uninspired and boring" has been Pocket's logo preference for the last decade (going back to Resistance).

The shift came so that relaunch books separate themselves by not using the same font/logo as the series they follow (although Voyager just seems to have gone for a simpler colour scheme...). I'd go for more classical simplicity than uninspired and boring, but that goes back to the whole personal preference issue.

Titan and Vanguard had decent covers, as did Destiny.

Have a look, everyone! The first specimen copy of "Fire with Fire" arrived on my desk today (well, actually on my couch). I'm really excited that in a weeks from now every Star Trek fan in the world is able to read the words Christian and I wrote (well at least in German - as a matter of fact the English version is by translator Helga Parmiter and editor Keith DeCandido). :) [IMG]

Shame they didn't keep the firey Prometheus lettering, but can't wait to read it. Afraid my German isn't quite good enough for a full novel...

Funnily enough the the fiery Prometheus lettering was met with some criticism from German fans on Cross Cult's facebook :D

I remember that. It looks more like a fantasy novel some fans said.

But wasn't it Prometheus who gave fire to humanity?
