Considering what little we actually know about the new show, most everything is speculative or intentionally silly. At this point, the intentionally silly gets more of my attention. LOL
What if the entire crew is actually monkeys? In the final episode of the season Harry Mudd catches up to the ship and comes aboard with cages and tells everyone to get back into them. At this point the audience is confused but then he starts to toss bananas into the cages and the crew starts to go crazy. First they toss their weed, which we all agreed they should be using in another thread, and then they pull off the human masks and suits they have been wearing the whole time and what do you know they had all been monkeys from the start that somehow escaped and decided to pretend to be human and in one case a alien. Jason.
Is Starfleet a military? Does the Federation use money? Did Khan have prosthetic moobs? Should Janeway have killed Tuvix?
Honestly Jason, I also couldn't believe it when I saw it was someone other than you that created this topic! It has all the makings of a new potential "Blue Warp Nacelles" thread before (during and even after) Trek 09 came out. Let's keep this going. Its so topical! Should the new Star Trek have monkeys? Should it not have monkeys? I'm sure there is a focus group somewhere sweating beads over this highly contestable element of the new series. Personally, I really can't decide if the new series should or should not have monkeys. I'm gonna sit on the fence for the first 1,000 or so pages and soak up the reactions first.
When I first saw the title of the thread, I was thinking monkeys as in used to pilot early spaceships/akin to Phlox's medical menagerie monkeys...
There has been a long tradition of space monkeys on TV... - Blip - Debbie the Bloop - Gleek - Professor Bobo The one thing they had in common were great names. If there is going to be a monkey is Star Trek, it needs to have a similarly fabulous name.
