If you took a picture of our current family, including extended family, you would see a sea of white faces.
My family is painfully white. It was scandalous when my uncle married a Latina woman. (They got over it, eventually.) More recently, my aunt cheated on her husband, divorced him, then eloped with her black boyfriend to another state. She assumed nobody would accept him, although everyone assured her they would have.
As I enjoy self-deprecating humour, I often introduce myself as "half East Prussian. Half Saxon. All German" and "I. Am. German. - I am a specimen of a superrrior rrrace" (cue WW jokes). Immediate family is small, all white. Nephew is half Turkish, which caused a schism in the family despite him being fully white. The rift is slowly healing. My partner and his mother are English. For the sake of family cohesion, avoid all talks about politics. Passions run high. Religion is irrelevant.
We're mostly all white, but we have almost even of Jewish and Christian, as well as one or two Buddhists, and a couple of agnostics, and a couple of spiritual, but not religious. My (step) father-in-law is half Native American, which puts my brother-in-law as a Jewish Indian. Throw in a couple of lgbtq relatives as well. My family has both hardcore conservatives and hardcore progressives, just to make things interesting at Thanksgiving.
We have both boys and girls, what else is there? Actually my wife is of German descent, I am seemingly of some sort of Scandinavian background somewhere along the line (so the balance of evidence would suggest - long story) My adopted family have Jewish heritage of some description but identify as British and Christian.
My great-grandparents on my fathers side were Austrian-German, on my mothers side Hungarian; emigrated in the early 20th Century to NYC. My grandfather was born in 1902, his parents came to the US just a few years before. No first cousins, my older brother married a Chicagoen, my in-laws are ethnic polish.
A lot of americans can claim some Jewish descent, although the actual number of "Jewish" jews in america is ~2%
Half my family is redneck, a two-thirds of the remainder is Mexican, and a third is...formerly redneck, but now civilized and boring. I identify as redneck, but in reality I'm civilized and boring.
My parents too me to "children's aid" I am adopted. I know nothing of my ancestry at all, but the older lady who was there said that I did have brothers and sisters from both sides. I wondered what that meant--until I was told that my biological parents were each married to other people> Which makes me a bastard going and coming I suppose. So much for my idea of long lost rich ancestors... The folks would not tell me who they were--but they did say they could notify my birth parents that I wanted to see them. No dice--that could cause crap in two different families. I wanted to know who they were--without knowing who I was. I could drive past the homes--or see their images on computer--just one time--and maybe have some information in case I needed bone marrow--or they did. I'd give them their privacy--and drive right on by. I was "Unknown baby Glass"
My family is a bunch of Scottish/Irish white people. All of whom seem to be straight and cis. I'm trans, so I'm the odd duck.
