    Don't you mean Iraq Lobsters?

In about 1/4th of normal gravity, at that (judging by the pour speed of the liquid)

I was starting to feel that way too, until I decided for no reason to bring Grizzled Old Grampa Drax with me on the ice planet missions. That guy cracks me the fuck up. Drax + Vetra have the kind of back and forth that almost rivals Tali-Garrus.

    Peebee's dialog gets interesting too:
Drax: "Wait... your father was an Elcor? That doesn't seem like you at all!"
Peebee: "Inquisitively. What do you mean by that?"

I do think the story would be more compelling if the Angarans were being turned into something beautiful, instead of being your average ugly sci-fi monster.

Just had a quick run through last night with a Sara Ryder. For me, I haven't run into any glitches yet (pc) though on occasion the lighting could be better. (Mostly thinking of certain parts of the nexus on my own characters face). My drivers are up to date so I might check the settings again. Mostly, it's been a decent looking game though.

I'm only up to Eos, so I've only got Cora and Liam as my ground team. Still, I already know that I'm going to end up getting hooked.

I was hesitant due to the lukewarm word of mouth, but I guess I still have a soft spot for this series, so I took the plunge.

Definitely Inquisition in space, but with better combat and less, if any grinding, I've been surprisingly okay with that. In a lot of ways it feels like Inquisition done right.

Don't think I'm far enough in to judge the story, maybe that'll take a nosedive and justify the word of mouth, but based on what I've played so far, the reception has been unfairly harsh. Yeah there are flaws, but it's far from the "worst game ever made" that youtube would have you believe.

Well, first big plot decision, and I regret it already.

Decided to save the angara. I suspect not destroying the facility will bite me later on.

It's taken a little while, but I'm starting to get into it more. Enjoying the exploration. Still struggling with the combat - pace is a bit too frenetic for me, cover breaks too easily, enemies are often hard to discern against the fore/background, and the number of 'cloaking' enemies is irritating. I mean, I've never been particularly great with shooting things (there's a reason I don't go beyond normal difficulty), but here I feel like I'm flailing around every time I have to fight stuff. Multiplayer's been pretty disastrous as a result - think I've completed a grand total of 1 Bronze match so far!

Had a bunch of bugs crop up - infinite loading, black intro screen; the entire HUD went missing at one point, including the menu screen! Character animations aren't bothering me at all.

I really like this game.. a lot.

Apart from some minor glitches (clipping and some graphics errors that can be patched) i haven't had any technical issues so far.

I have just established the first outpost on the first planet and so far i really like the story.. it's mysterious enough and i love the exploration/save the Initiative angle alongside all the politics that are developing.

Most fun i had was with combat though.. i like the new Jetpack and the mobility it gives you in combat (especially with the Evade action that lets you zip around like you're on crack). I still feel i have barely scratched the surface.. soooo many skills and tech/weapon upgrades and then there's the research option.

I also love the Nomad, once again a near indestructible vehicle and i really tried (so far only radiation and water can kill it ). It's so much fun blasting around.. i hope i can uograde it later on to include weapons.

I agree with others that it the game looks fantastic and i've only seen the Nexus, Eos (the first desertlike planet) and the Tempest but it's all very well made. I especially like the attention to detail when you walk through abandoned stations with all the stuff laying around.. no wonder this game took so long to finish.

My memory is a bit hazy since i played ME1 (i tend to play story games only once because then i know the story and don't see the point repeating it) but i don't get the criticism about boring characters and NPCs. The first Mass Effect trilogy had 3 games and countless DLCs to expand on all this so i'll give this game a shot.. i already like some of the characters i met and this is just the first major mission so i think it is fine.

The Tempest is fantastic because it's such a compact space - love the crew interactions over intercom and/or shouting downstairs

Well I'm still plodding on. Over 30 hours in and I've no idea how much longer there is but I'm enjoying things much more. My awkwardness with the combat controls has tempered somewhat, even though I still miss ducking. ;)

Apart from the stupid monolith /glyph puzzles, and any mission involving finding plants or rare animals, I'm happy with the side mission part of the game. To the point where the first two planets I've found are 100% and the third one is on its way to that.

Despite my misgivings of the initial dull characters, I just had Cora and Peebee in my squad for their missions. Oh god the snappiness between them was hilarious.
The banter between the crew on the ship is fun to hear as well.

So I would still say I prefer the originals, but after the initial learning curve, I'm having a much better time. It really feels like a mass effect game and I can't wait to get back to it when I'm not at work.

    I'm in a similar situation.

Initially I really struggled with this, while DAI for all his flaws felt a logical step forward from previous games this to me felt like an inferior studio had realised Mass Effect sold well and made their own.

Early on the combat felt clunky, the dialogue is strained, the characters dull and the approach seemed to be more throw a lot of things at you and hope enough stuck to make it worthwhile. My character looking terrible in most of the cut scenes didn't help matters either. Then on the first planet I started to get the hang of it and even more so when moving onto the Ice world and a few more interesting characters showed up so I'm enjoying it more now but so far I'd still say it's the worst Mass Effect game.

Combat still seems to be somewhat vague, I don't really feel like i'm making solid contact with any of them the way I did in ME2 & 3. The biotic combos also seem very weedy compared with the satisfying thump of the last game, without the little sign that pops up I wouldn't know they are there at all. It seems to be a weird mix of them being too far away to really distinguish between the different classes to being right on top of you out of nowhere so making it all too frantic to spot those differences. So far I couldn't tell you what the difference is between the different Kett classes are even after playing the multiplayer as well. There's certainly no satisfying mix of types as there were with Cerberus and the Reapers.

The story and dialogue still feel in need of a polish, they seem to be packing so much in that nothing really has any weight. The whole Pathfinder thing didn't seem anywhere near as important as Shepard becoming a Spectre though arguably it is more. You have moments like first meeting the Angara when one moment they surround you and you can't understand them to them speaking English and knowing about you already. So far nothing has had the same impact for me as Shepard becoming a Spectre or the Inquisition finding their way to Skyhold.

I do think as well that if they had made this a last ditch project to get away from the Reapers it would have made more sense of the mess they are in now.

Character wise Cora and Liam make Kaiden & Ashley seem like dynamic interesting people but the rest of the crew liven things up a bit more. I've been romancing Gil so far and it seems a bit by the numbers - you do a main story mission and he talks to you a bit more. I guess that's not hugely different from ME3 but they disguised a bit better there. Though to be fair the squadmate romances might be a bit more interesting.

Overall I like it enough to keep going and if it hadn't been called Mass Effect I would have probably been less annoyed initially but it feels like they've thrown out everything they learnt over the course of the first trilogy and started from scratch with the gameplay/characters in the same way they have with the storyline.

Played a little more yesterday (though I'm only four hours or so in).

I'm not a fan of the Nomad (I did like the MAKO but not the Hammerhead) but a bit more practice might make it better.
As for the characters, I've only just met Peebee and Drack and so far don't have a problem with the characters.

Combat for me feels fine, but my Ryder is currently more a rifle user than tech/biotics. In cut scenes, she looks ok and I haven't run into any animation issues yet.

I don't mind the Nomad but I wish you didn't have to switch to the all-terrain mode to make it up hills - even when they're not even that steep! I now do it instinctively but I don't think it really adds anything to have had that feature in the first place.

Yeah, some of the hills didn't feel that steep (especially given some of the terrain I'd just driven over).
The Mako on the otherhand felt like it would go anywhere.

    The MAKO was like this

    Fuck Doors
    Fuck Hills
    Fuck Lava

There was an animated .gif of the Mako somewhere showing this.

    Ah found it.

I think the Nomad is the more realistic of the wheeled vehicles in Mass Effect.

I loved the Mako. I haven't had a chance to try out the Nomad yet, though. Had to restart the game a couple of times because I couldn't get a decent custom face, so I eventually just said "screw it" and switched to a default face.

The only thing the Mako has going for it over the Nomad is that it has a cannon. In all other respects it's complete garbage.

But it can take somewhat of a beating unlike the Hammerhead which was made of butter
