T'was as expected, so in that regard, it was an OK ending to the movie franchise.

I gotta be honest, Jaws is one of my favorite movies, and I only watched it for the first time about fifteen years ago. I have seen Jaws 3 in 3D at the Alamo Drafthouse, and yesterday, I watched Jaws 2. Still haven't seen the fourth one, so my viewing experience is all out of order. Maybe if I hadn't known both Brody's boys would survive, I'd have been more concerned...I was kinda disappointed with this movie, though I did like that the Orca is a tourist destination & shark feeding spot.

This morning, I watched the old Charleton Heston movie about the painting of the Sistine Chapel. I'd like to see that place myself, someday...I was amused that the Netflix viewing included an intermission, as many classics did back in the day. That's something I think should be brought back, especially for movies three hours or longer.

So, I went to see the John Wick sequel on opening weekend. I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially "Are you here for the Pope?" Best line of the whole thing. The fight sequences were great, too, and I'm looking forward to the third one.

Watched Rogue One for the second time. And knowing who was who & how it all fit helped me enjoy it more than when I went to see it back in December. Adding it to this year's list since the first viewing was in 3D.

Watched all four of the Bill Burr standup specials available on Netflix the other night. Made me laugh a few times.

Disappointed by Silver Streak. Good cast, but lame story.

I have finally seen all four Jaws movies, finishing off with the fourth one the other day. I gotta say, if you have to ignore the events of a previous sequel (in this case, Jaws 3-D which I saw in the theater a couple of years back) to write the story for your sequel, you're making a shitty sequel.

Did not know Black Widow & Captain America made more than one movie together (saw The Perfect Score years ago) before the Marvel movies got started. Did y'all?

Been watching Cheers, Game of Thrones & American Horror Story: Hotel lately, too.

    - edit -

Continued through the "my list" for Netflix yesterday.

Watched Kevin Costner's Black or White family drama. Pretty good "based on a true story" story about a white grandfather & black grandmother fighting for custody of a mixed race granddaughter.

Followed that with Nightcrawler, which features Bill Paxton in a supporting role as a freelance photojournalist, selling video & witness interviews to the newscast that will pay the most money.

And then the Justin Timberlake concert video directed by Jonathan Demme.

Took a bit of a nap, and watched Hard Candy this morning. Ellen Page plays a 14 year old who tortures Patrick Wilson's suspected pedophile.

And now I'm watching the animated Marvel movie that teams up the Hulk with Doctor Strange & has 'em dealing with monsters on Halloween night.

John Wick Chapter 2 - Movie Tavern - I got a pass for a "free" movie at Movie Tavern, I had until Feb 28th to use it. I wanted to see "The Space Between Us" but it was already gonyfrom this location. So my other choice was "Get Out" but I couldn't make the showing yesterday so I settled on John Wick C2.

First off, Keanu Reeves is getting old and I really like how they incorporated him being beaten down in how he moved away from the action. There is something fun about these escape kinda movies. While barely held together by the thinnest of story, it somehow works and was immensely enjoyable for me.

You completely understand the easy rules established and it makes for a wonderful ending and setup for John Wick Chapter 3.

There is a really nice extended cameo that I was unaware of before going in that really made me laugh out loud when he shows up.

They use what appears to be Commodore 64's as their computer systems for maintaining all their information.

What you come for is the action and it is constant and intense. One of the best is Keanu John Wick vs Common's Cassian. Common is fantastic in this as the bodyguard seeking revenge for the death of his ward. Also Ruby Rose as the mute Ares, she was very good in her role.

And the first new to me movie of March is 2016's Doctor Who Christmas special! Picked it up for ten bucks at Wal-Mart this morning.

I liked the idea of the Doctor inadvertently creating a superhero, and checking in with him later, offering advice & such.

I did not like Nardole at all.

The special itself was interesting, entertaining, and, with the ending, a clear setup for stuff to come up later this season.

A couple of featurettes are included with the DVD release, a "making of" and a look at what kind of character Peter Capaldi's Doctor really is.

For a movie that is almost two hours long, there are so many things that weren't well recognized or fleshed out and parts that could have just been cut out (the SGU alumni Louis Ferreira and Rhona Mitra, along with Tate Donovan come to mind). Yes, Pena puts the pieces together that Wahlberg didn't do it, but both he and Mara's characters believe him way too easy.

But as I've said previously, action movies are meant to be for big explosions and kills and this movie delivers. It was also interesting to see Ned Beatty and Danny Glover as particularly asshole bad guys, something I hope both of which try more of.

    No Escape - C-

While it does a great job of portraying a realistic idea of what might occur in this scenario, in a genre that hasn't become tired yet, it's hardly believable that two normal people would be able to haul their children through a war zone with the kids barely making a peep and managing all the death-defying stunts they manage to pull off to escape (jumping off the hotel roof and walking along the tiny outside of the adjoining building).

Having spent his career playing the idiot/joker characters, Owen Wilson is mis-cast as the middle management family man. Equally as mis-cast is Lake Bell, who looks like she'd rather be partying than the mother of two children.

The character also manages to speak French for two seconds, but is useless for the rest of the movie. Wilson's character never fully grasps why they are after him and the story doesn't take a stand. The rebels are just these evil barbarians and Wilson never even thinks his company could have done wrong.

The only bright spot in this one is Pierce Brosnan, who sounded like he had an interesting backstory or involvement in the county, but the movie glazes it over and ignores it.

The ending is anti-climatic with Vietnamese soldiers going on about the family not being allowed in their waters, only to let them and then defend them seconds later.

    Nine Lives - F

This movie could have also be called Nine Lives: If Frank Underwood Became A Cat.

Spacey is so much better than this. I could understand if he wanted to do a family movie, but the jokes in this are neither family orientated or funny.

How far has Jennifer Garner's career slipped and is Christopher Walken content to play weirdos for the rest of his career?

The emotional impact of David's realization that his father named the company after his drawing and that he owns shares are woefully un-impactful and this "family" movie strongly hints that he is going to commit suicide instead of simply using the parachute.

One expects Ian, the villain, to grow a moustache for him to start twirling and how does he and the board get enough power to sell the company before Spacey's body is even cold?

    The Departed - C

There is just too much going on with the bit players, so much so that you lose track. If the script had cut out the stuff with Nicholson's crew and the surprise second mole bit, it could have been a character piece of two men going in different directions (cop coming from a bad family name, somewhat good guy to dirty cop).

Damon and DiCaprio are great in the roles, but any emotion is rushed to pack in everything else. Did we need them to both date the psychiatrist or care who was the father of her child? Especially when DiCaprio figures out who Damon is at the station.

Nicholson is great as the gangster, but his sudden descent into finding a mole when he is in fact a mole is just weird and his end comes far too quickly and anti-climatically.

So, I spent the last week or so marathonning the hell out of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Netflix. I watched the second, third, fourth, fifth & sixth seasons, and nothing else, because there was a notice that it would only be available until March 7th. And its still there today, so I'm pretty pissed that Netflix lied to me.

To retaliate, I watched two Netflix Original standup specials after finished the sixth season of SW: The Clone Wars.

First up, Mike Birbiglia's newest special, which is not as funny as the last couple he's done, but it was still alright, and had stuff that made me laugh. So, if ya liked his previous specials, check this one out, too.

And this morning, I watched Amy Schumer's new one. Now, I don't watch her show, I did see her movie, and I read about half of her book, The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo. And there were a couple of jokes here & there that made me laugh, but the majority of her special was about her sex life, and she made sex with her would be the worst possible thing to happen to anyone ever. And not in a funny way, but like tragic torture. And then she got serious about gun control, and went back to wanting to have sex with Bradley Cooper, as if he's done anything to deserve such a fate.

And now, back to cleaning up "my list" on Netflix 'cause I have the day off from work, and that's what adults do!

    - edit -

So, I watched the documentaries I had saved on "my list" yesterday.

FtLoS was very touching, a heartfelt & honest tribute to Leonard Nimoy & his iconic Mr. Spock directed by Adam Nimoy. I'd been putting it off for awhile, but its been two years since he's passed away, and eight years since the brief moment where I got to meet him, so I figured I could handle it. Still, almost cried.

IAYF was an interesting look at David Prowse's history, though it was a bit of a disappointment since the filmmaker's goal - to refilm Darth Vader's final scene from Return of the Jedi with Prowse in the suit when the helmet comes off - couldn't be shown due to copyright. Yes, it was done, but it isn't included with the rest of the documentary.

PI was an interesting look at something I know nothing about, bodybuilding. And to see Arnold & Lou Ferrigno competing in against each other in their prime...damn.

    JC was absolutely terrifying.

Raiders! was pretty good, though it made me want to see the actual fan film, not just a retrospective of what they had done as kids & the filming of the final scene needed, the airplane fight sequence & explosion.

BB was very sweet, telling the story of the Make-a-Wish that turned San Francisco into Gotham City for a five year old cancer patient a couple of years ago.

    - edit again -

Watched TIG last night before work. Pretty good movie about Alan Turing's cracking the German Enigma code in WWII starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Watched AOC this afternoon. Twisted family drama with an incredible cast, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

Watching HR now. Starring Tom Hiddleston & Jeremy Irons...I'm not quite sure what the hell this movie is supposed to be about.

Another kids movie with my newborn son, but another one that wasn't that bad.

Of course I had the lamb pegged from the moment she appeared, but again, kids movie.

I went out to Maypearl for my oldest nephew's Texas Roundup basketball game. Afterwards, we went up to the Parks Mall in Arlington for food court pizza & to see Hugh Jackman's latest & last turn as Wolverine. The pizza was pretty good, if a bit greasy, and the movie sold out while I was waiting in line to buy our tickets.

So we wound up at the Cinemark in Mansfield. Nice theater, the seats reclined.

And they accepted the Fandango movie bucks, so I only had to pay $6 to get both tickets.

Thomas said he liked the movie, I'm not so sure how I feel about it. As a possible finale for the franchise (at least set in the future & going forward) it was kind of depressing, and as a finale for Wolverine, it was more than a little disappointing. X-23 was pretty cool, though. And Patrick Stewart got to be awesome one more time as Xavier.

I may have to go see it again, since I have one more Fandango discount code I can use.

So, I watched the two new standup specials from Dave Chappelle. Going from the trailers released from Netflix, I was assuming it would be like the Chris Rock special that HBO had a few years ago, that was filmed in several nations & edited together into one big event. This was two separate one-hour specials, with different material in both.

Of the two, I preferred the one filmed in Los Angeles, but neither was as good as Killin' Them Softly, which I recently rewatched the other day, as well.

YES! It was a very touching look at Leonard Nimoy and his work as Spock, and the cultural impact of his character. Adam Nimoy did a great job with this tribute to his father's legacy.
