...Has it ever been explained just how Sisko can utterly wreck house in a fist fight?

Just looking up clips and I'm genuinely surprised that Ben can throw some really mean blows that stagger even Jem’hadar. I mean dang, even a backhand floored Garak.

Again, it does make one think.

    Who wins?

Not surprising that he can wallop Garak. Garak doesn't fistfight, he wins by stealth and craft. And hitting, even hitting back, the commander of the station is Not a good plan. What if Sisko exiled him from DS9? He has nowhere else to go.

Oh, I understood that but I was surprised, even if he was caught off guard, that he literally crashed to the floor from a backhand.

Garak also probably understands that the faster he goes down the faster the punching stops.

Garak is no slouch when it comes to fighting. He got in four or five really good hits before Worf recovered and pounded him in Broken Link.

Mirror Worf was pretty out of shape, not the toned warrior of the Prime Universe. And Mirror Garak seemed to have a much more physical job than hemming trousers.

Wait, I'm confused. I assumed this is what Tosk meant.

Cause I would like to see Mirror Garak! :)

Well he really packed on the weight as the show went on. I guess he had a lot of mass to put behind his punches!

BTW anybody ever notice for all of the "fat Kirk" jokes you see you never see any about Sisko?

I think fans became quite forgiving once Sisko shaved his head and grew the beard...Or that very combination has mind wiping powers.

I think the First Contact uniforms saved the day just as Brooks' weight became a serious issue. Of course, even the original DS9 uniforms were more forgiving--color on top, black everywhere else--than the TOS, TOS movie and TNG uniforms.

Somehow I'd always interpreted it as muscle. Sisko being fat just doesn't seem right and the big shoulders meant he could carry it off.

Of course now the illusion will be ruined for me.

Ha, sorry! He carries it well anyway, always a good looking guy even carrying some extra weight.

It's obvious that they wanted the space battles to look more epic, but at some point it seems like a decision was made to have fewer phaser fights, more pugilism. When TWOTW was first broadcast, I was more impressed with the fight in Ops than the fight in space. I think the actors were very committed to making their physical performance look good. Visitor was a fit woman, and she undoubtedly had strength in her legs, but when Kira fought, it seemed more Sarah Connor than River Tam. Farrell made it seem like Dax knew the techniques of this fictional fighting style. And if Brooks was out of shape, it at least looked as if Sisko spent a few years as a kid at the local boxing club.
