Making a Black Cat movie without Spider-Man is like making a Catwoman movie without Batman. Who would think that could work....

    ...Oh.

And that would have worked if they had a decent script and a far better costumer designer.

Poor choice of words? At any rate, you do have to start somewhere.

It may have gotten a little garbled, but that was essentially what I was saying; if the movie's good enough, it won't matter how many people know or care about Black Cat and Silver Sable beforehand. I'm skeptical of it (given I'm not sure if the characters can hold their own movie and Sony has not shown themselves to be making good Spider-Man movies after Sam Raimi left), but I think that's my own biases and general low opinion of the characters.

Must be a difference between comic lines, since in the Ultimate Spider-Man trade paperbacks I have, Black Cat has short black hair but wears a long white wig.

Ultimate Spider-Man is an alternate universe from the main one.

In the 616 comics, Felicia always had platinum blonde hair.

I wouldn't worry about the hair...if this movie ever gets off the ground, Silver Sable will be black.

Wasn't the tower trashed in Age of Ultron, with the Avengers moving to the other facility Stark had (as seen in Ant-Man and Civil War)? Wonder what the story is behind Avengers Tower being up and running again.

The penthouse was trashed in Age of Ultron. No explanation was given in film as to why they moved the Avengers facilities to those old SHIELD compounds. If I had to wager a guess, it would be to remove the Avengers from a public space and to a more secluded area. Remember, after the Hulk's rampage in Africa and the Sokovia event, the Avengers' public perception was in the toilet. Keeping them out of the public eye was probably the smart decision for the team and the general public.

I would assume Sony has the rights to her, since they have the rights to all of the Spider-Man stuff. Remember, Sony technically still has the rights to Spider-Man, not Marvel. They just decided to work with Marvel rather than actually giving them back the rights.
The one I'm more curious about is Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, since she is technically a "Spider" character, but isn't necessarily a Spider-Man character like Black Cat, or Venom. I know this has come up before, but I can't remember if anybody gave definite answer.

I would guess that Sony don't have the rights to Jessica. She has absolutely no connection to Peter Parker, outside of being a "Spider" named hero and one or two powers they share (agility and wall crawling), but a lot of her own powers. Its not like the two main universe Spider-Girls or the May Parker Spider-Girl, all of which were definitely connected to Peter. Jessica has never been part of the "Spider-Man" comic line (same with Spider-Woman II/Arachne, Julia Carpenter). Now, there might be some deal where Marvel can't use Jessica because of brand confusion or something, but as far as the comics go Jessica really couldn't be more removed from Spider-Man unless she changed her name.

That's all just my guess, obviously. It makes sense to me, but character rights can be weird. Still, I figure Sony would have done something with her if they had the rights, or we'd have heard if they had Jessica's rights.

That would be my initial assumption as well, but these kind of things can get weird and I could see the legal people deciding that since she has Spider in her name that makes her a Spider-Man character.

It's been seen in some promotional stills and it's in the trailer that came out a while back (the shot of Spidey getting flung into the school bus is with him wearing the homemade suit).

I apologize if I'm missing something obvious, but we saw that costume in Civil War, no? Briefly, but still...

    Did we?
I've seen all of that stuff as it's come out, so I guess I must have just forgotten about it then.

As I recall, we did briefly see the homemade costume in Civil War; Tony Stark shows a hologram of a YouTube video someone took of Peter as Spider-Man. He also finds the costume in its hiding place (although Peter quickly stuffs it in the closet).

We glimpsed the original costume in CW, but it looks like we'll be getting a better look at it in Homecoming, probably due to some flashback content.
