I got the physical deluxe edition pre-ordered for my PS4pro. Plus, I'm enough of a Biodrone, i'll probably eventually pick it up for XBone. Just can't seem to help myself. I think my collection of Mass Effect merchandise rivals my trek collection.

Just seen the system requirements for the PC version, they seem very comparable to Star Wars: Battlefront. I'm guessing the Frostbite engine has made this possible?

As much as I love Mass Effect, I'm seriously thinking about waiting for the GotY edition after all the DLC has come out.

Past experience has taught me that aside from being anti-consumer, pre-order bonuses aren't worth the bother and "deluxe edition" in-game extras are almost never good value for the extra cost. Particularly in EA games.
Another factor is that I've never bought a Bioware game on release where the first playthrough wasn't mired by performance issues, bugged side-quests and glitchy cut-scenes. Seems better to wait it out until they've patched everything they're going to patch.

Ironically the only mitigating factor (besides avoiding plot spoilers for a good 10-12 months is going to be neigh impossible) is that I really enjoyed ME3's MP and after the disappointment of DAI's MP, I'd like to try and recapture a little of that,

I went Day One on ME2, 3, as well as DA:O, DA2, DA:I and never had any of these issues

that's on consoles though, I got the PC versions later on for most of these - modders had taken care of any issues there when I got around to them

I got DA2, DAI, ME2 & ME3 at launch and of them I think the worst was probably DA2.

It had this weird cumulative bug where everytime you saved a game, the player attack speed would be recorded incorrectly resulting in a gradual but exponential slowdown. By Act 3, my DW rogue femHawke was fighting in full on bullet-time slow-mo with everyone else moving normally. They eventually patched it so it didn't get any worse, but that didn't undo the initial error in the save file. Had to go into the file with a save editor and manually edit the appropriate value.

I forget the which and the what but there were a bunch of side-quests (mostly act 3) that either didn't trigger, couldn't be turned in or were just broken and that's not even counting all of the worldstate import errors.
There was also one that flat out spoilt Merrill's loyalty story as if played certain cutscenes out or order: specifically the scene where she morns the Keepers death *before* that quest was even started. I think there was something weird with one of the final Varrik loyalty scenes too.

ME2 also had a few oddities with the side-quests (mostly Omega & Illium IIRC), though not as bad as ME3 which had a whole slew of the Citadel quests breaking, including the Kasumi one.

With DAI it was a bunch of minor niggles one would expect in a large, semi-open world game and some not so minor performance and stability issues. For a while there DAI would crash at least once an hour.

I'm not saying any or even all of these are particularly unusual (though the attack slow-down was a pain to sort out) nor that they're grounds for not buying the game.
Just that for once, it'd be nice for the first playthough to be with a fully patched and reasonably stable game. It's just a contributing factor in my wondering if applying a little patience foresight won't result in a better overall experience.

By comparison, I bought the DA:O "Ultimate Edition" for a tenner not long before DA2 came out and while certainly not bug free, it was by far the best gaming experience and value for money of any other Bioware game since.

so you got the games on PC I take it? sorry if you stated that before, maybe I've missed it

re: GOTYs, of course they're impossible to beat from a value standpoint - especially with heavy hitters like ME and DA, where the eventual GOTY release is just a matter of "when", not "if" - it becomes a matter of "are you willing to wait?"

Pretty much. Like I said, what may or may not swing it probably the MP since that offers comparatively more value over the long run. Like I said though, it depends on how it shakes out compared to DAI or ME3.

And yeah, I'm a PC gamer.

The way this is phrased has me wondering if this means nine heads between the two genders or nine for each. If it's the former then that would seem a little odd. Literally...

This sounds suspiciously like code for "Soldier, Adept, Engineer, Sentinel, Vanguard & Infiltrator" as starting loadouts. I assume the reason they just don't say that is to avoid confusion.
Have to say, not sure how I feel about this pick'N'mix class system. On the one hand it sounds like a lot of fun, but on the other it feels like it's going to undermine the appeal of multiple playthroughs, somewhat trivialise the choice of which squadmate to bring along and you just know there's going to be some ridiculous OP build some minmaxer is going to discover in the first week that'll lead to patches and nerfs that's pretty much tear the guts out of some of the more interesting powers. So pretty much what happened to the Knight Enchanter.

Oh thank Dagon! I'll never understand how they managed to botch something so basic in ME3 after doing a perfectly adequate job in every other game they ever made. The mind boggles.

Not sure why, but I feel like Vetra & Peebee are going to be my go-to team. Which is both weird and to be expected at this point since I almost always end up with all female teams in Bioware games: Moririgan-Leliana-Wynne, Merrill-Isabella-Avaline, Sera-Cassandra-Vivienne, Liara-Tali, Jack-Miranda & Liara-EDI.
I swear I don't plan it like this...well not entirely. I do almost always play as a female character, but at this point, that's more of a tradition for me with Bioware games than anything. Also, I seem incapable of designing a male face that looks interesting and not exactly like a slightly stunned and strategically shaved baboon.

Well this is strange. So far as I can tell they're not actually selling a physical copy of the game for PC. The only thing listed is a "code in a box" which may just be the most stupid and wasteful kind of product I've ever heard of.
I think that may have decided it for me as a 55GB download would probably tie up my internet connection for a week and a half.
Bugger that for a game of space conkers!

It is a bit of a pain. There had been random comments online that it would also be released on disc, but those have fallen by the wayside.

Given that I've also downloaded a few via Steam and GOG this quarter, I suspect my provider is going to wonder what's going on as I haven't been quite so prolific doing that before:lol:

If they're really holding off an a physical copy then that seems to me all the more reason to wait around for the GotY edition (or whatever they end up calling it.)

I used to worry about that, but I think these days with on-demand TV being more and more common, the provides don't really bat an eyelid since they're probably artificially throttling your DL speed anyway, trade description act be damned! ;)

I don't think there were any official comments but more random speculation (I think those mentioned seven disks) but one can but hope (especially when all the dlc has been released).

I'm guessing the code in a box is posted to you (Though I notice it's currently cheaper that way than direct from Origin) - but from past experience, pre-order dlc's are emailed so that's rediculous.

Not sure how I didn't get this alert from the board, but you're very welcome! :D And yes!

Did you notice she was wearing the asymmetrical N7 jacket btw?

Which is why i am in self-imposed news embargo.. the game should be good so i don't want to give me an aneurism trying to follow every bit of news and 10 second clips that show something from the game.

It'll be released soon enough and then i'll be gone for a while :)
