The Trek novels and short stories that Marco Palmieri edited are highly regarded. I've even seen his name mentioned in the same breath as Gene Coon, Nicholas Meyer, Michael Piller and Ira Steven Behr. I want to try and read everything that Marco had a hand in. This is a potentially interesting project. Marco was also editor of the first two Myriad Universes volumes (and originated the third-- he picked the stories, but wasn't with S&S by the time they were completed). He also edited one of the two Mirror Universe three-in-ones (not sure which). I think he originated Seven Deadly Sins.
I have nothing to add to this topic other than to opine that Marco being let go from his job as Star Trek editor was probably the worst event in the 50 year history of Star Trek novels. I don't think that's an exageration in the least. And certainly the Treklit community's behind the scenes interaction with Pocket has taken a huge drop since the days when Marco frequented this board and always kept us in the loop with upcoming novel information.
A few things to add: - Marco also finished up the third book and edited the fourth book in KRAD's Gorkon/Klingon Empire series - the novel Forged In Fire, which is technically TOS but it's about the same crew as Lost Era: Sundered so I always in my head put it at the beginning of Lost Era - the Voyager anniversary String Theory trilogy - the TOS anniversary Crucible trilogy
And this is where I mention that Marco is now an editor at Tor Books, where he has acquired and edited many acclaimed and successful projects.
I've been wondering for a while, is there a way to find out who edits specific books? I know editors tend to work with specific types of books, so I've often wondered if finding books edited by the same people would be a good way to find stuff I might like.
That can be tricky with book editors, although the acknowledgments pages of individual books are a good place to look. Where it can get messy is if one editor acquires the book, another editor is assigned to edit it, and, conceivably, a third editor inherits if the first or second editor move on . . ..which has been known to happen. Trek example: John Ordover hired me to write the 3rd Khan book,and was heavily involved in plotting the outline, but John had moved on by the time I finally finished writing the book, so it was Ed Schlesinger who actually edited the manuscript. (Ditto for the second UNDERWORLD novel.)
During the Dark Times at S&S, Myriad Universes: Shattered Light had four different editors from start to finish! The only Marco-edited Tor book I've read thus far is The Traitor Baru Cormorant, which was very good. Keep meaning to get around to Max Gladstone's stuff. If you like Marco, he bigs up the work he edits on facebook a lot; that's why I ended up wanting to read The Traitor.
Just to clarify the OP's list, Una McCormack's Hollow Men is not part of the DS9 relaunch in any way. It's story is a sequel to Season 6's In The Pale Moonlight and takes place before His Way. Even the majority of The Never-Ending Sacrifice takes place during the TV series of Deep Space Nine.
The entirety of Lives of Dax is set before the end of DS9 but the Audrid story still ties it heavily into the DS9 Relaunch. Those two books are similar; they're both tied strongly to the themes and concepts of the Relaunch.
Doesn't a new host for one of the joined Trills from the Joran story also pop up in the DS9 Relaunch? I haven't read the story myself, but I think I remember reading about it and seeing a name pop up in that story and one or two of the DS9R books.
More like 87% by page count. Or 8/9 by number of hosts. Yes, Hiziki Gard from Mission: Gamma, Unity, and Trill: Unjoined is the successor host to Verjyl Gard from "Allegra Ouroboros in D Minor."

Oh, I see what you mean. I was considering distinct stories by page count and listing in the contents, but the post-finale Ezri story had a pre-finale flashback within it. So that would put it at more like 92% pre-finale.

Given that Shattered Light and Seven Deadly Sins weren't released until two years after Marco's layoff (and went through several editors before publication), I think I'll keep them off the list for now. Same with the Gorkon novel Enemy Territory since it didn't originate with him. Did Marco edit James Swallow's Titan novel Synthesis, or was I wrong in my assumption? I'll have to check his Tor stuff out some time. Does he oversee the website too? I mostly frequent BirthMoviesDeath and The AV Club, but I've found myself over at Tor occasionally. Their re-watches and Doctor Who guides, many of which were done by KRAD, are terrific. Oh, and @Thrawn your Lit-verse Flowchart is an amazing thing of beauty. This list making geek with OCD tendencies is in awe. Thank you for putting that together. It's true that Hollow Men doesn't touch on the post-DS9 finale timeline like the rest do to varying degrees, but it's the only other DS9 novel overseen by Marco. The DS9 Relaunch (even more so than Vanguard and the Voyager Re-Relaunch) was Marco's baby and (unlike those aforementioned projects) pre-planned solely by him. Grouping it with the other Relaunch side stories might not actually be right, but it felt right to me. Despite not reading any of it yet, what fascinates me most about Marco's Trek run is how ambitious it all is. Especially in light of him seemingly coming out of nowhere. At the time he had only edited The Lives of Dax (an anthology based on a then unpopular red headed stepchild of the franchise), apparently saw what Andrew J. Robinson did with A Stitch in Time and said to himself, "F--- it. Paramount's never going to use anyone but Worf in future Trek movies and series anyway. I'm making an eighth season of DS9." That's impressive as hell. Marco was clearly a fan of the DS9 too. He must have had a blast. I just picked up the first four novels and one novella of DS9: "Season Eight" through the Twist of Faith e-book. It was only $8 on Amazon, which was a hell of a deal. Since money's a little tight right now I want to focus on the best that Marco's Trek run had to offer before eventually checking out the rest. No, Tor.com has its own separate staff. And Marco is just one of numerous fiction editors Tor/Forge has; I think it's the biggest SF/fantasy publisher in the country.
