While I like the twist that part of the Empire would survive the KCA conquest, it strikes me as unlikely that the Sol system would be able to stand on its own. That's like Soviets and US-Americans were unable to liberate Berlin in '45, or the Federation Alliance allowing the Dominion to cocoon themselves at Cardassia.

But that nitpick will not impair my enjoyment of the story. Here's to hoping the Imperial ships have gold markings. Long live the Empire! :D

You comment on a typo, but not on the fact that the pages are clearly out of order? ;)

That preview as pretty good. I was surprised they had part of the Empire surviving into the TNG era, I had just assumed it would be an alternate MU where the Empire never fell. I'm definitely looking forward to this series a bit more now. I wonder how many other characters we'll get to see?

I dunno. Stargazer is also the title of a Rainbow epic from 1976 with sword and sorcery style lyrics from Ronnie James Dio about a wizard who uses slave labor to construct a stone tower to reach the stars. Maybe Ritchie Blackmore's music survives into the 24th century in the MU. I could definitely see the Terran Empire liking that track.

I just thought it was weird that they messed up the name of very franchise they were writing about. Especially since they got it correct elsewhere in the article.

But you're right, commenting on a typo was probably uncalled for. Sorry.

Still looking forward to this series, though! :D

Huh, so the 24th century Terran Empire is decorating their ships with similar paintjobs to the 22nd century ships, even though the 23rd century ships weren't done in this manner.

^ First you stop painting the yellow highlights on your ships, and next thing you know rogue first officers are trying to bring down your empire from within. The fix seems obvious. ;)

Besides... this was probably changed in TOS-R, but IIRC, the original version of the episode never actually showed the top of the saucer (presumably so they wouldn't have to mess with the labelling to change it to "I.S.S."). So how do you know the yellow highlights *weren't* there? :p

TOS-R did actually show the top of the saucer, with an "I.S.S." but no yellow markings: http://tos.trekcore.com/hd/albums/2x04hd/mirrormirrorhd0425g.jpg

Still, it's just one ship. It may have been an exception. Or maybe some divisions of the fleet had the markings and others didn't.

This story has a few more images.

I remember loving the TNG novel Dark Mirror, but it's been so long I may have to find another copy.

I'm definitely liking what I'm seeing. I've enjoyed most of the Tipton's stuff I've read and I love JK Woodward's art. This is one I might actually have to pick up as the individual issues are released rather than waiting for the collected edition.

Who knows what the word stargazer might imply in the future.
Words and their import can change over time.
Patriot and cruise would hold little menace for people 50 years ago.

I read the FCBD issue a few weeks ago. It's a self-contained prelude to the mini-series that focuses on an unexpected character (ie., he's not on the cover) and uses that character to show the reader how the Mirror Universe "works" -- the backstabbing, the plotting, the assassinations, etc. I enjoyed it. If you like the Mirror Universe, it's worth looking for on May 6th.

Copies have been floating around my office for a few weeks. I read that and the Doctor Who FCBD book, and Skottie Young's Image book is on the pile of things to be read.
