Are you suggesting that at some point the brain-to-zombie supply is going to become too uneven, and there simply won't be enough brains in the Seattle area to supply all the zombies?

Judging by Liv's intake rate, at least once a week. Although we've seen that they don't eat a whole brain all at once, but keep them refrigerated for later use.

Egad. Sometimes it's hard to remember that we're talking about cannibalism here. It's this really disturbing subject that we and the show's characters have become surprisingly casual about.

^ After a while you become desensitized. Television does that sometimes.

I actually think a lot of the food that Liv prepares looks delicious! Even with the brains.

    * I have no plans on eating brains though. Just to be clear.

    Ok just some quick calculations.
The mortality rate for the 2006-2010 period in Seattle is 639.3 per 100,000 (source). The total population of Seattle is 608,660, so we can espect 324 deaths every month, more or less.

So the Seattle area can sustain a little bit more than 300 zombies, that seems to me a dangerous low number.

On the other hand, this is a crime-procedural show, which skews the numbers somewhat. The real Seattle had a total of 24 homicides in 2015, according to the Seattle PD's crime dashboard. But Clive Babineaux alone gets assigned nearly that many homicides per year, and he's probably one of dozens of homicide detectives. (I can't find data for just how many of those the Seattle PD has, though its total complement is about 1300 people.) So the total homicide rate citywide is probably considerably higher in the show's version of Seattle than it is in the real Seattle.

(There was a time when the combined homicide rate of the three Law and Order shows airing simultaneously surpassed the actual homicide rate of New York City.)

Law and Order universe is some kind of Utopia compared with Cabot Cove, with 1,490 murders per million. That is around 60 per cent higher than Honduras, the real-life murder capital of the world where there is a violent death every 74 minutes.

yes it's surprising for such a quippy show to be so fundamentally dark.

While I'm glad it doesn't come up weekly, I hope they do an episode that kind of touches on the fact that Liv holds the last part of someone that somebody has lost, and that she can share that part of the dead person with their loved one/s before it fades away forever. I think that could lead to a very touching and beautiful scene, if handled right. The show occasionally skirts over this idea, but they usually pivot to comedy (so someone seems to recognize that Liv is like their lost partner, so she quickly glosses it over with a joke).

A thought occurs to me: So now Clive knows Liv is a zombie who eats human brains. And he's a cop. Just how illegal is cannibalism? Or mutilating a corpse beyond what's necessary for an autopsy? How many laws does Liv have to break just to survive, let alone to help Clive with his cases? How will he feel going forward, now that he knows the true source of Liv's visions? Being "psychic" isn't illegal, but eating human brains probably is, so Clive might feel that it taints his investigations if he has to draw on the fruits of one crime to solve another.

Has anyone read the comic series for the iZombie?

No, although I understand it's profoundly different from the show, with no character names in common, no procedural/crime-solving element, and a lot more different types of monsters and supernatural entities besides zombies. Per Wikipedia, it shares the basic premise of being about a young female zombie who needs to consume a brain per month to stay functional and who takes on the memories of her meals, but she's a gravedigger rather than a morgue attendant, and her name is Gwen. And it shares the Pacific Northwest setting, though it's based in Eugene, Oregon rather than Seattle.

I also read that the show will premiere midseason, like the first. So no new episodes until next year, and back down to 13.

I almost picked up the GN once, but I figured if it was that different from the show I might as well pass on it. I enjoy the show and don't want to disappoint myself if I read something that's neater that they could have used for the show.
