I really enjoyed that vignette. However I do have a few small nitpicks that if resolved I think would increase the production value. 1. Iron those uniforms. Turn them inside out and use a low heat setting and they should be fine. 2. Those TOS sets are great, but don't do close up shots of panels in the transporter room as we can see blemishes such as paint strokes and chips in the wood. 3. The Captain looked like he had never seen an alien before. 4. Dr Todd looked far too scruffy to be taken seriously as a Starfleet officer - get a shave or grow a tidy looking beard or something All that being said, the acting was not bad. The music and visual effects were stunning. The story was compelling and I can't wait to know what happens next. Any guesses on what the sphere on the planet surface is? Edit: I got this message back from Starship Republic: I really respect them for the fact that they are able to take constrictive feedback. I have a really good feeling about this production. The video is still working for me.
I thought this might be of interest. Starship Republic contacted John van Citters about their new fan film, and he responded back to them: Link Starship Republic have interpreted this to mean the following: Starship Republic does appear to be keeping within the guidelines anyway. Where they may have been some liberty given by CBS is that they plan to release two 15 minutes films in addition to the nine minute vignette already released. Furthermore they are offering perks on their indiegogo page. However most of the perks currently being offered are digital perks. The only physical perks are posters.
This looks good. I have saved their Indiegogo campaign. Looks like they are staying within guidelines. They are also not far from me.
I think I would have just responded to JVC privately with "thank you very much" and let that be that. Trying to use the exchange as anything more might rub someone the wrong way...........
Its the same as always.... CBS has talways been willing to turn a blind eye to good, low key productions, but don't you dare claim *approval*, let alone try to COMPETE with them.... I think all the people that never got messed with before are fine as is/was, and if you keep a low profile, more power to ya, but just keep your damn *mouth shut*...... they aren't allowed to give approval, any more then the guidelines are law. Common sense and respect is all thats really needed here IMO.
Pretty good- my nit picks would be your four and tell the one actor to lose the Millenial hair cut, watch the wonky angles and just tighten the pace a little bit. Hey we are under attack let's walk at a normal pace on the bridge... @ Phil I thought it was pretty easy to see the Captain is smitten with the alien.
Fan Film Factor has done a really good write up about Starship Republic's interaction with CBS: http://fanfilmfactor.com/2017/02/24/starship-republic-contacts-cbs-directly-about-their-indiegogo-campaign-part-1/#more-3518 Also here is the second teaser trailer:
Their 3rd teaser is pretty good, lighting, the ships, camera composition...but when they do a hard close-up on the grey space station where it's basically Maya shapes bent and assembled together, no texturing where you expect at least a metal surface...Yes, it's nitpicking but they lost me right there...
