Rather than post separate threads etc I'm just going to start this one and update it with all my scribbles! First up an aquatic first contact for Captain Sisko:
It was an uneventful day at Deep Space Nine. And everybody thought that was fine. But not Captain Sisko, our action-packed hero, Who saw his excitement drop to below zero When all that Chief O'Brian had to say: "No anomalies or system crashes, so yay." "What in the wormhole am I going to do," he wondered? Strolling through the station, he bumped into Dax as he pondered. As always, she came up with an excellent plan, And as he departed, shouted "Thank you old man!" What he needed was another eye, a view, a sight, So he shuttled off into the endless night. Through the wormhole, wide and far, He somehow found an uncharted star. And there! A planet, unknown to him, Rich in water; time for a swim! And when he dove, he saw a shape: an alien, mouth agape! The universal translator did it's job, And the alien introduced himself as Bob (at least, that's how it translated the garbling, but Sisko wasn't worried a thing) He got to see Bob's home and family and was introduced to his wife Emily After all was said and done (and a lot of oh's and ah's) He even saved Bob's kid from and angry fish's claws! After one final regional roam, It was finally time to go home. After the flight back to the station, He landed with a smile at his destination. As he sat in his office and watched outside, He couldn't help but feel some pride: All he needed in the end, Was just a new friend. Something like that :-)
Awesome! I really love your style! Mind going into some of the technical details, like your work process, is it traditional or digital, etc?
Keep it up. Oh, and I couldn't resist Sisko: You remind me of something Dad used to cook in his restaurant back home in New Orleans.
And the dark truth behind this picture was later that day the DS9 command crew had a nice fish dinner.... LOL
Cheers! So yeah I work with pencil first, then ink through either traditional nib and ink or copic fineliners (or similar brands) and I colour with watercolours. I might also use copic markers (often for skin tone) and prismacolor pencils for highlights etc. That all gets scanned in with my Epson V600 Photo scanner (so far the best scanner I've found for watercolours!!!) - and that's it. I've tried digital and I just don't like it, it's not for me which is not to say I'm not massively jealous of those who can!!! But I like kicking it old school mistakes and all! I've got a couple of videos but I really should make more of an effort to get some more done!
Kirk, Spock and McCoy make first contact… I was going to paint this as normal but then I thought it looked cool just inked and you guys are all welcome to print copies to colour in yourselves!!!
Thanks for the info! I prefer to do the initial work traditionally, then clean-up/color digitally. But I am super jealous of your clean and smooth inking! I can't seem to get a smooth line (or put it where I want to the first time) to save my life.
