@DavidAlanMack: A good night's work on my STAR TREK: DISCOVERY novel. Two scenes written for 2,500 words' progress. I've passed 100 pages, 32k words. Nice.

For those who might be curious, work is going very well on my new STAR TREK: DISCOVERY novel.

I've just passed 100 pages and roughly 32,000 words in the draft manuscript, and I'm on-schedule for my contractual delivery date.

Beyond that, I've had a wonderful experience collaborating with the writers' room to make sure that the details of the show and the novel will mesh well, and that the spirit of the story I'm writing will reflect the hopeful, deeply humane ethos of the new series.

This is going to be something great, folks. And I can't tell you how happy I am to be a part of it, even if only tangentially. I can hardly wait for all of you to see the new show and read this book, so that we can all be on the same page.

Cool. Nice little tidbit about Discovery. Good to see the reference to a hopeful, humane future. I will be looking for this book when it comes out.

Already getting tie-in media? that's a pretty good sign.

So at launch we could be looking at the show across streaming media, multiple platform releases (digital and physical), soundtracks, books, we already have Eaglemoss confirming models, maybe IDW expanding the liscence to produce Discovery comics too?

If Paramounts remark about season 1 paying for itself already extends to all that then I'm sure we're going to be getting 2-3 seasons with this profit level, if it holds.

It is CBS not Paramount, but I suspect how well Season 1 does will have the most impact on the budget for subsequent series.

When Season 1 was sold to Netflix internationally, it had Brian Fuller's name attached to it, and was due on a certain date sight unseen.

With the hiccups the show has experienced, I think they will be looking for performance after release, as well as opportunities for merchandising.

I'm sure it will do well, regardless of the fandoms reaction to it. With a CBS/Netflix release this will be going out to a pretty large global audience, and the general public probably is still unaware of the delays, not being as invested in the minutae.

They've already announced this is happening. AFAIK, they are still planning on releasing it to tie in with the premiere.

This novel is not about the pilot episode?

Sounds like an original story to me.

Yeah, it's an original story. If it was based on the pilot it would be called a novelization.

The exciting thing about all these cross media tie ins is that we might get some decent toys/replicas out of it too. I really loved the Enterprise Phaser, although the communicator was a horribly cheap and nasty piece of tat. I'd love to think that we're going to get a new phaser or tricorder out of this!

Good to know directly from the author, thanks.
