James Cameron Announced His Return to Terminator

Apparently it was announced recently that when the rights revert back to him James Cameron will return to the Terminator Franchise to end it. Tim Miller from Deadpool is coming along for the ride.

Doesn't seem like he wants to end the franchise, just revamp it in some, as yet, undisclosed fashion.

 

At this point I don't really care anymore, I got two good and one ok movie out of this franchise, oh, and some Summer Glau, that's it for me.

If it ignores every film after T2, great.

You know, Brad Fiedel is retired from scoring, but I asked him in my 2011 interview with him about possibly returning and I got this answer:

So this -- if Cameron asks him -- could eventually mark Fiedel not only returning (if just for one film) but a new Terminator score from him.

 

Will that be before or after the 17 Avatar sequels planned?

This time the terminator unit will be powered by unobtainium and used to infiltrate the Na'vi.

 

Cameron's made two of my favourite three movies (Terminator and Aliens) - if anyone can rescue the franchise, it's him.

 

Well isn't that what Genysis did. And that was grrreat.

 

Terminator films are like the Alien films. The first film and second film were great, all the sequels have not yet lived up to them. So, unlike Alien, since he created the Terminator franchise, if James Cameron wants to create a third great Terminator film, then I hope he does. For me it will complete his Terminator Trilogy. I am still waiting for a third great Alien film from Neill Blomkamp once Ridley Scott is done with the Prometheus films.

It would be nice if there was some inclusion about multiple timelines, peripherally touching on T3, Salvation, Genysis and Sarah Connor Chronicles....

Yeah, I have to admit, the franchise really feels played out at this point. Genysis really drove that point home for me. A lack of good ideas means they keep returning to T1/T2 territory instead of expanding on it. I actually liked Salvation because at least it gave us the story from a different point of view and a different timeline and I found it to be a breath of fresh air. But really, I don't think we need another Terminator, even for the sake of ending the franchise. The fork's already in deep.

 

If Cameron writes a really terrific Terminator flick that ignores the crappy sequels and finally ties up the franchise, I'd sit through three hours of it. But it has to deliver.

 

Since the Skynet unit of Genisys was supposed to be from another timeline they could go that route.

What would be interesting is if he went the route he was talking about a few years ago. When he was interviewed for the reference book Terminator Vault Cameron said he felt Skynet felt remorse for destroying humanity and orchestrated the Future War to destroy itself - down to creating John Connor.

 

Just hurry up and rerelease T2 in cinemas in 3D, it's meant to be sometime this year. That's the only "new" Terminator movie I'm bothered about

 

It'd be interesting, and maybe beneficial, if Cameron pulls a Blomkamp and ignored 3, Salvation, and Genisys and created a sequel to T2 in his own vision.

 

Is my memory playing tricks on me, or did Cameron not publicly endorse the most recent burning landfill of a Terminator movie? Kinda hard to take him seriously with this statement when he was giving the last guys the thumbs up from the sidelines.
