Good as ...or nearly as good as Star Trek

I love the original Star Trek. The spin-offs I enjoy (never got into Enterrpise though) - but they're not as close to my heart as the original.

Other shows I love:
Doctor Who (original show 1963-1989 especially)
Blakes 7
Space: 1999
Sapphire and Steel
UFO
Thunderbirds
Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons
Public Eye
Callan
Secret Army
The Sweeney
Mission: Impossible
The Avengers
The Prisoner
Babylon 5
Farscape
Dad's Army
Columbo
Man in a Suitcase

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles
1978 Battlestar Galactica
Babylon 5
1970's Doctor Who
That 70's Show
Emergency!
Logans Run
Fawlty Towers

My list contains shows that are somehow emotionally important to me.

Doctor Who
MASH
Cheers
Friends
How I Met Your Mother
Head of the Class
Eight is Enough
Family Ties
The Cosby Show
The Big Bang Theory
Growing Pains
Taxi
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Babylon Five
Twilight Zone
The Wonderful World of Disney
The Bob Newhart Show

I could make a list of a few personal favorites, but the only shows I consider in the same league as Star Trek (which I look at as one entity, not separate series) are:

Original Outer Limits
Original Twilight Zone
Babylon 5

Close runners up:

Firefly
The Stargate shows
The 80s Twilight Zone

Okay, I'll throw in a couple that have a special place in my heart:

Original Night Stalker
Tales of the Gold Monkey

In my mind, Night Stalker is the equal of Star Trek. But that's only in my mind. :rommie:

I can't help but wonder if Matt Drudge was a fan.

The blue clothes...the straw hat...the piece of crap camera--the cassette recorder the cops pull the ribbons/tape out of ;)

Doctor Who. In fact for a period of time in the late 2000s, I loved Who more than Trek because at least it was giving me new episodes. Something that Trek had stopped doing.
Red Dwarf
Stargate
Farscape
Although I've gone back to watch some episodes now and realise it's nowhere as good as I remember, I still have a place in my heart for Knight Rider.
Not a TV show as such but Formula One.
Anything from Joss Whedon (ie Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, etc).

Looking at this from the perspective of shows I own and really enjoy showing to people who haven't seen them...besides Star Trek...

Lost
Queer as Folk
Looking
Six Feet Under
Babylon Five

The BBC's "Coupling" is my all-time favourite series, outside of STAR TREK. Sally, on the show, is gorgeous and she's got the greatest personality, ever! Love her to bits, really, but the whole cast is brilliant.

I enjoy tons of shows, including at least half the ones already mentioned, but the ones that are truly, deeply significant to me are very few:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The West Wing
Firefly
DS9
iZombie
Gilmore GIrls

I had hoped a while ago that the Flash was coming close to joining that list, but I think that shipped has sailed now.

Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Better Call Saul
Breaking Bad
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Family Guy
Fringe
Futurama
Rick and Morty
Scream Queens
Six Feet Under
Sons of Anarchy
The Sopranos
The X-Files

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned but here goes:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Firefly
Farscape
Barney Miller
Rat Patrol
Face Off

Some of the shows that I consider to be as good as, if not better than, my favorite Star Trek series (DS9 and Voyager) that haven't been mentioned yet:
Haven
Las Vegas (NBC)
Elementary
Supergirl
iZombie
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Nickelodeon)
WestWorld

I have what I think of as an upper echelon of shows which are particularly important to me and which I consider myself a real fan of, not just enjoying while they're on, or following because I'm hooked. I tend to have encyclopaedic knowledge of them and can watch then over and over without tiring of them. Star Trek has been central to that group for a long time, but also included are:

Stargate SG-1 (the spin-offs never really grabbed me, especially not Atlantis)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel
nuDoctor Who
nuBSG
And, bizarrely, ER

When I was a lot younger, the Gerry Anderson shows were up there too - especially Captain Scarlet, which I'm rediscovering for it's fiftieth anniversary and finding I still enjoy quite a lot.

It's been a while since something grabbed me enough to make it into this group. Game of Thrones is a possible modern contender. So is Orphan Black.

Babylon 5 -- it has a vast, coherent canvas and remains consistent within the bounds of that canvas (unlike Star Trek). However, I'm that not committed to B5 that I'm willing to buy the expensive tomes that Babylon 5 Books publish. If The Expanse lasts and doesn't go off the rails, I might add it to the list although this is unlikely as I don't feel any strong desire to rewatch season 1.

I would once have added Farscape, The X-Files, UFO, Space:1999, Blakes 7, and Doctor Who but they've fallen by the wayside. I guess TV just isn't that important to me anymore. Nowadays I prefer to listen to music, read a book, or do other things. Literary SF also remains much superior to TV or film.

Twilight Zone
Babylon 5
Doctor Who
Real Humans (Äkta människor)

I think any other shows are just too far out of the realm of Star Trek to even be compared to it really. Still:

Gravity Falls, Detective Conan and Madoka Magica are among my top favourites along with Star Trek (yeah what can I say I really like animation and the fact they're about 10-20 minutes makes them ideal so the four together are just my favourite things to watch even if they are an odd mix).

I would have to say the following.

Farscape
Babylon 5
Wild Wild West, especially the black & white episodes.

I was really starting to get into Almost Human when it got canned. Was hoping to see more of it.
