This summer, iconic Canadian band The Tragically Hip is doing their final tour, after announcing in May that frontman Gord Downie has terminal brain cancer. This will culminate in their final concert on August 20, performed in Kingston, Ontario, which will be broadcast live on CBC (TV, radio, and online).

Inspired by this, our theme for this week's contest will be your favourite bands. Your entry can show your band in concert, playing in a music video, in a publicity shot, on an album cover, etc. Because of the subject matter, media sources are allowed this time, but there are some other rules:

    • The band must be real, not fictional
    • The act must be known as a band, and billed by the band name. Although solo performers generally have their own band for performances, if they are billed as a solo artist, then they are not eligible.
Standard avatar rules apply: maximum of 200 x 200 pixels, and maximum of 1 MB if animated.

Also, please include the band name when you post your entry, because the chances that I will be able to identify them visually are pretty much zero. Thank you. :)

The Hip might not be my favourite band of all time, but I will enter them, because I want to ensure they are represented:

Contest will be open for one week! Have fun! :techman:

Poor Gord Downie. That's awful. :(

This is one of my all-time favorite bands, who also suffered a tragic loss:

Every single one of these bands has suffered at least one tragic and untimely death. :(

Ohh nice theme! One of the best I've seen in some time :)

Mine: Great Big Sea. Sadly they're no longer together (No, no death) which made it tougher to find good stuff to use on Google. And as corny as their videos were, their focus was on the live performances. I ended up having to use a frame from one of their videos.

My favourites are somewhat outdated but still good =)

The Comedian Harmonists, a legendary German sextett from between WW1 and WW2. Basically, our great-grandmothers' favourite boygroup :D

Here's an example from 1934 "can you whistle, Joanna?" (she can also sing, eat peaches, gargle, fuzz and be silent)

    Now, there's a vote.

    (emphasis added)

I must admit, I'm not sure I've heard this used as a verb before. Just out of curiosity, what does it mean to fuzz?

She meant it in the sense of "to nag".

argh! Yes, I meant indeed "to fuss". Sorry - I posted that 3 hours after my usual bedtime and after tinkering with a few files and a database for 4 hours. I tend to confuse homophones when I'm tired.

@ Kai: Veronika is a classic, but my current favourite is:
    Als ich letzten Donnerstag
    in der Badewanne lag
nahm ich meine Brause mit Gesang.
    Und vom Dach zum Erdgeschoß
    dies die Nachbarn sehr verdroß,
weil mein Singen laut und scheußlich klang.
Aber was geht mich das an,
man singt halt wie man kann.
Wenn ich vergnügt bin, muß ich singen,
wenn auch die andern Leut zerspringen.
ene mene mink mank, pink pank, ene mene acke backe eia weia weg.

(Lol, I wonder what a translation bot would make out of the refrain  )

No worries, I was just curious! :)

    Well, let's see...

Hmm, I'm not sure I appreciate German musicians writing songs about me behind my back. Even if it was before I was born.
