I registered and joined on April 25, 2001. Close, but in the year 2000 I didn't yet know this place existed.

True. Mostly because hardly any board would survive much longer.
There are exceptions, though: I've been using the same nick on KHCMB since June 2000 :)

Registered August 2001, during the summer holiday just after my first year of A-levels. Had been watching TOS on the E4 television channel. Lurked since 1999 in some form.

August '01 seemed so optimistic a time for Trek and the world, then what happened after... :(

Yes Ma'am.. and this place was like a glorious cross between Thunderdome and The Wild Bunch.

    Ah, good times.

I've been cooleddie74 since the day I registered (if you don't count the Holiday name changes). And yes, back in the day this place was a lot more, well, shall we say spirited. What passes for trolling and exciting today is nothing compared to the early years of the board.

My profile says July 2001 but I lurked for a long time before that. Back in the days TNZ was public it was some that or other in there that convinced me to sign up. And I've grown to take it all for granted, so much so I didn't even notice it was my 15th anniversary a couple of weeks back.

I know a few people saved BORU 05:31 at the time, but granted that was years ago. I remember one person (a girl from San Diego who was also on my LiveJournal - I cannot remember her TrekBBS name other then it wasn't the same as her LJ name) saved it to her actual website. I know a few people (including T'Bonz and myself) did save a copy to their computers at the time, but I guess that was 15.5 years and goodness knows how many computers ago. I suppose there is an outside chance it did get picked up by archive.org when it was hosted on the San Diego girl's website - but once again - long long time ago and I don't remember what the website even was.

That thread was my first major interaction into the TrekBBS world and thought I was so 'naughty' being a part of it. I do recall lost of the posts where mine. Including singing (well typing) 'This is the Song that doesn't End' over and over (naturally because I'd have to continue typing it only until it got to its natural end... wait...;) )

Also I always though BORU was a lass :)

This account was Feb 27 2002 which hilariously is the correct date (I remember multiple people got their joining dates reset or messed up due to various board upgrades).

However I did register in late 2001 as Boobies of Borg. Clearly the charm of that name lasted only a short while before I was sick of it, but then moving to the other side of the world at the same time, I decided to start afresh with this name. I didn't tell anybody though, as this was the height of Lisa and Susannah banning anybody and anything that was even remotely associated with multiple accounts. It was a paranoid world back then.

Oh! Oh! I remember Evil Robert! When I first came to TrekBBS, you were my hero! I thought you were the funniest person I'd ever met...in fact, I tried to save several of your threads because I loved them. I don't have them now because that computer got stolen from me. I always wondered what had happened to you ...:D

I remember very little. I lurked before I posted so I was actually around sooner than the join date, but I was a regular poster elsewhere. I remember posting a lot about new episodes from the various shows but I was quite busy with other things and posted in bursts. I don't even remember some of the more famous events from the board's history alas. I did have some more personal contact with some of the members who are now long gone though, and I miss some of them. I DO remember it being a much wilder place but then a lot of forums were back then.

^same here. I didn't really want to register because I much disliked the board using military ranks and imo the essence of Trek is peaceful coexistence. Also, I didn't like the tone, having come from an extremely friendly and funny board. However, I had a lot of friends posting here and so I let myself be talked into de-lurking and registering. Since I always was a slow poster, I had difficulties staying up with my friends. Most of them turned Admirals years ago.
One or two years ago we had a thread about former members we miss and what became of them. Maybe there are a few names you recognize. I'll see if I can find a link.

Welcome back, Evil Robert! It's me, formerly batlh :) In case you wonder about the new name: it was the result of a chat with RJDiogenes. We discussed the unusual fact that there was still rhubarb to be had in the market while the rhododendrons were already in full bloom - usually there's at least a month between both - and I dared him to say 3 times "rhubarb and rhododendron". The result was a rhubarbodendodron which turned out to be longer than the BBS permits, so I shortened it a little and used it as my new name to sneak back in and see what the de-lisa-ed board was like.

I totally agree, ghostie: Robert isn't evil at all but one of the nicest posters ever!

^^ No, unfortunately Terran is still gone and Santaman still hasn't heard back from the owners. He's not optimistic. But it's still possible to access Chat through Chatzilla or whatever.

that sucks! I couldn't access the board for months as the stupid firewall at my office blocks it.
Fortunately, only one table crashed. I trust you have backups? With these it's just a matter of minutes to restore the damaged file.
Alternatively, I could set up a copy of the board on my own server from a database backup. Technically, it'd be the same board, only in a different location.

I shan't be in chat tonight either: I'm attending a diner en blanc =) With baroque fireworks, childrens ballet, live music etc. And hopefully with a few handsome and cultivated gentlemen (preferably single and heterosexual) :D

We have a backup from May but nothing more recent. Unfortunately without the admin control panel we can't do much - the owner is the only one with SQL database access and they aren't responding.
