The more apt comparison is that NO ONE was leaving notes, and just taking little things from the store hoping the owner wouldn't notice, THEN someone came along with the panel truck...

And they released a new trailer that violates most of the guidelines to thumb their nose at CBS/P.........With even more Klingon screaming!

We had a single owner/operator gas station in the country that would leave a tin can on top of the pump when he was gone. He said he never lost a dine by doing it.

Since the productions published their work, thereby showing exactly what they took, and they kept their takings modest and within what the store was comfortable allowing, I would argue the original comparison is apt. I don't see anything about the documented behavior of prior productions that is *anywhere* near the real world mega cash grab of Axanar. This is a singular event, not a natural evolution. IMO.

It's kind of like those old honor system snack things. Remember those? You'd go into the break room and there would be a box with candy bars, gum, and such, and you would put 50 cents in the little box and get your candy. It was based on the honor system. What happened here was that people were taking a candy bar or a pack of gum here and there without paying for it, but the owner didn't seem to care enough to do anything about it. I mean, things happen sometimes, right? Then we have Alec, who came along, dumped all of the candy into a bag, put it in his own vending machine, and started selling it himself.

Also, am I dating myself with that example?

He also doesn't have to send any perks and pocket that cash as well, so win-win on all fronts.

This would be the time for coverage to memorialize "the end of an era, thanks to CashGrab-anar". As long as the general press coverage can present the facts about the attempted diversion of large amounts of fundraising and unlicensed sales money into corporate operation and assets for long term goals unrelated to Trek, the chosen spin strategy will be undermined.

"Too bad, but those jerks were greedy so it blew up."

Anyone who has a line into the typical writers might ask them to review this dimension before writing an inaccurate post-mortem.

You know, this is a really good analogy, Coloratura. Quite excellent in fact.

Also, no, you're not dating yourself. The honor system in breakrooms and common areas is still being used.

Nope, we've got a local video game store that has that setup. It does dissuade some would-be thieves that it's next to the cashier, though...

End of an Era ? Nope... Just a change in the rules... AP & company will spin it as an end of an Era... It's far from that...

Well, yes and no. FASA did have a License for the TOS series and the TOS feature films at the time. HOWEVER FASA management thought the license entitled them to be able to use the upcoming TNG material (it didn't); and they got their hands on the early TNG bible and some of the ORIGINAL (IE before the roles were cast) character write-ups - and released a TNG Sourcebook WELL BEFORE the first episode of TNG premiered.

    Paramount came in and said:
    1) No your license doesn't apply to TNG material.
    2) the info in your sourcebook is inaccurate (IE Character biographies and backgrounds have changed.)
    3) Stop distributing/selling the TNG Sourcebook and get all unsold copies back and destroy them.

FASA dragged their feet on #3 and didn't fully comply so when the renewal option on their Star Trek license came up; Paramount declined to renew.

He/they're doing it again? When will they get off their White Charger while claiming they speak for ALL fans? He definetely does NOT speak for me!

I'm sad to see these published guidelines which while fair, seem to prohibit the longer running series like NV, Continues, Intrepid etc. They are workable for one off stories, but even short form series like Potemkin seem torpedoed by them. :(

I hope that somehow, the filmed but unfinished episodes of various series can somehow be completed and released, but that also seems difficult to achieve. I will keep fingers crossed though, because it would be a shame to lose all that hard work and time put into them.

At the end of the day, I will miss NV et al, but there are more important things in the world to worry about. I will keep an eye out on this thread however. I'm dreading to see what Axanar and friends can come up with to spin this to their advantage, despite Peters' and Burnetts' initial comments.

Obviously, the solution to a swarm of bees raging at you for stealing their honey, is to steal more of their honey.

Doubtless "keeping attention away from the money" has been a key behind the scenes PR goal for Axanar. Somehow THR and others have failed to follow the money. The time will pass soon for it to be attached to the events of the day. Maybe they are getting hints of lawsuits, who knows. But it could be worse than for Buzzfeed and maybe even LA Times to examine this dimension. Lurking?

The thing that pisses me off about this is that there would be no fight if Alec Peters and his people hadn't gone and pissed in the pool.
