This is my first post (so I apologize in advance if I mess anything up!) but...

I always used to dread her episodes (even though I like her as an actress) but recently seeing The Foresaken and Half a Life again, I thought much more highly of her character. Plus Ménage a Troi is my guilty pleasure episode :)

    A respectable 6

7 out of 10 from me. I liked her more in the DS9 episodes, though.

Sophia Loren would've possibly made the part work. Majel Barrett definitely didn't. Every nanosecond of her midlife crisis onscreen was absolutely cringeworthy. And though she was capable, at times, of making an astute observation, or - even, inadvertently - $aving the day, as it were, the journey getting there with her was tedious, at best. Majel just didn't have the chops to elevate this banal role above the 8O's TV annoying mother stereotype she was written as.

Sophia Loren would've been stellar casting as Lwaxana Troi; and I'm sure she would've brought something internal with the character Majel couldn't bring out. Lwaxana had a sense of loneliness Majel couldn't portray effectively to me. There was always something missing for me when ever the character appeared.

Capn, you're right. I looked at the join date, not the post date of the post above Vorpal Blade. Apologies to Vorpal Blade and kudos to you for defending him.

Ugh, I didn't like Lwaxana at all. She was even more cringeworthy in DS9

    2.

She had two good episodes with "Half A Life" & "Dark Page" and unfortunately, she needed to be grating and insufferable the rest of the time to make those two episodes as good as they were.

Sometimes I think it was Gene wanting to give his wife work or because she was on TOS and then they fell into having to bring her back repeatedly.

I want to say even worse than Neelix, but she didn't appear nearly as much and that's at least some saving grace.

I like Half a Life as well--but for David Ogden Stiers, not for her.

Dark Page is just melodramatic murk to me.

So I'd be able to participate 8D

She rocks in every way, I enjoy everytime she's on screen; 7 out of 10.

She earns a 3 from me. But for a couple rare moments, she was generally poorly written, and while it may be heresy to say, was almost always poorly acted. Frankly, Majel is not all that good of an actress imho. Being married to the creator was highly fortuitous for her. It's pretty telling that I enjoyed her most as the ship's computer. There's a very good reason #1 never made it to the final TOS series, & it wasn't the female controversy so much as it was her lackluster abilities, which didn't even really appeal to me in the much less frequented role of Nurse Chapel

As for Lwaxana, short of Alexander's snotty childishness, she had the least likable traits of any regular character on the show. I found nothing empowering about it. It played like utter desperation. On the whole, I'm not exactly a huge fan of Deanna, but she has impressed me in an episode or two. So, for the most part, but I don't mind her being in the featured cast...... so long as her mother isn't in the episode... Then I can't stand either of them
That may be one of the most brilliant suggestions I've ever heard for this show

She can be annoying but I still like her. I think everyone has a relative like that. The fact that people that over-the-top still exist makes the 24th century a bit more believable.

I'll vote 4. As others have said, Half a Life was good, but I'm not sure it wouldn't have been just as good or better without another character taking her place.

1 good episode out of 9 appearances. Not good. Still, that's a better good to bad episode ratio than her daughter managed.

I think Majel Barrett did a fantastic job representing Lwaxana Troi. But the character was more at home in a sitcom as the difficult mother of the hapless manchild than in Star Trek.'

To me, Lwaxana Troi's highest moments were in DS9.
