I had 0 ideal who Alec Peters was before this; went into it not even giving a shit about him. Now, based on his online persona and his interviews, I think he's---at best---a used car salesman at worse a two-bit hustler. Shithead is the politest thing I can think to call him.

Calling it a "cult of personality" isn't to far from the truth.

You needed your taste of ground-truth to appreciate the situation. NP. Its why I referred new thread readers to the August 2015 Axanar podcast. If you want punishment, go listen.

Agree, they have to throw all the bucket at the wall to see if it has an effect, its SOP fighting a case I guess.

Making statements like these in the filing has to seem so utterly disingenuous to all professionals, watching fans, and probably a lot of Axanar supporters, that the net effect will probably be to becalm Axanar as all winds of support, appalled, fade away.

I am intensely curious what Abrams/Lin will say when next interviewed about Axanar. Perhaps they are temporarily at Farpoint.

IMO, what Alec is doing is projecting the blame. Bullies and punks exhibit that type of behavior blaming the victim while trying to sound altruistically in the right for the damage they've done. Alec has been using that transparent ploy since the beginning of the lawsuits.

ETA: this keeps moving too damn fast.

Can't copyright words, but you can trademark them, though it's already in common use. For instance, yours truly on February 14:

Is TrekBBS the last of the great scifi message boards?

This and Gallifrey Base. I've been spending more time there over the last few years, but the 50th anniversary, Star Trek Beyond, the new series, the continuing book sagas, and the wonderful fustercluck that is Axanar have been bringing me back here again.

If Erin Ranahan wants to make case-law with Axanar, she wouldn't want it to be settled out of court. What better way to ensure it goes to trial than to p*** off the plaintiff.

I wonder if the Axanar thought leaders on their site are still able to sell the idea they pushed for so long that team Axanar is the community of IDIC and love and inclusiveness and righteous fan film behavior, and critics are only excluded people muttering in the sewers of resentment against the great achievements of team Axanar.

Its becoming such a doubledown balloon, growing and growing... they have JJ's statement, and their self-lionizing filing, and they are waiting to see if it breaks in their favor. But if JJ blows his statement up, or if CBS comes down with draconian terms, or if the judge blows the crossfiling up with more ridicule, or if more dissatisfied insiders make damaging assertions like the author being told to write under a pen name, any of these things could derail them. And they have to juggle their donor perception through all of it.

I would think the countersuit was planned all along. Isn't that pretty much standard procedure?

Anyway, I am surprised that they again asked for dismissal, and summary judgment with prejudice. I'm not shure how that works, but it seems to me that it's a non-starter since their MTD was denied.

All the gushing about AP's lifelong fan status came across to me as BS, thrown in as filler. No way is it relevant.

Well, I'm for one glad JJ spoke up and the defendants filed their response, I was concerned we wouldn't get to 1000 pages....

We can get to 1000 pages just on the script for the radio drama about a young AP's life.

I call dibs on playing his mom. I want to wake him up every 2 hours. Because, reasons.
