Well it's finally hit the screens and I've just returned from a midnight screening. So it's time to start the thread.

My impression is that it isn't as good as First Class or DOFP. And in some respects it's a film of two halves with a slow first half and a more action packed second half. Slow of course doesn't mean bad there was some decent stuff in the first half with Eric. I enjoyed some of the scend with Quicksliver.

No doubt I'll add more thoughts after I have had a few hours sleep.

And yes there is a stinger at the end of the credits.

Over here in the States we don't get the movie for another week. I am excited for it, negative reviews aside. I can't fathom a Bryan Singer X-Men film being bad. It might not be as good as Days of Future Past, but I can't see Apocalypse being the worst of the franchise. It can't be worse than The Last Stand.

    I love spopilers...

Anyway, I am definitely planning on seeing this in the first week. Somehow I was fully expecting that it wouldn't be as strong of a movie as DOFP, so that doesn't really surprise me.

I was very good and avoided spoilers, reviews etc. So I had no real expecations about the film. So a few visits to previous locations. The wolverine scenes didn't real add much to the film except to get him into the film. Can't quite place my finger on what about the film bothers me., no doubt it'll come to me.

That'll be when the Blu-ray comes out. I only watch films once at the cinema, I can almost buy the blu-ray for what it cost to go to the cinema these days.

Mr. Sunday Movies has done one of his videos about the movie.

I keep seeing reviews saying Apocalypse is worse than X3, and I'm like nothing short of XMO can be worse than that. And yet Apocalypse is still rotten on RT. :/

I'm really surprised at all the mediocre-bad reviews. I friggin loved it! Was engaged the whole time, thought the action set pieces were great, enjoyed seeing Jean and Cyclops. Apocalypse unsettled me and even though I'm still not sold on the look of him I did get the impression of sheer power and a dominant will. Also love that one of the first things he sees while waking up is an episode of Star Trek ;).

Why does everyone take RT so seriously? Some of those "professional critics" are really just someone with a blog or website. How does their opinion or even those in print, have any more weight than anyone else? Also last I checked only a small number of reviews are listed for this movie so far.

People like to feel validated in their believes, by using the belief of others for support. Totem polling and competition of similar intellectual properties.

    Marvel vs DC
    Star Trek vs Star Wars
    GMC vs Ford

You are correct in your assessment that most critics today are internet bloggers and or internet journalists. Their opinions are about as valid as everyone else's since we all have a voice online.

Saw it earlier today. It's a much better movie than the last stand. I kinder ignored the reviews and what one friend said on FB. Found it enjoyable ... but not as good as the other two movies that were made before it.

And Quicksilver scene was cool, but felt like an longer version of the scene from DOFP.

Well for what it's worth the audiance reviews seem to be favourable at RT, than the critics reviews. But at the end of the day it's what you like not what some reviewer likes or dislikes.

Loved the movie. It has flaws (a wee bit long and too many characters) but all in all the whole stands.
I laughed my ass off at the jab at X3 (after the Jedi screening) and Quicksilver steals the scenes he's on.
I loved seeing Logan's escape from the Weapon X facility and the end credit scene (hinting at X-23).
Apocalypse wasn't as lame as I thought he would be.

Well in many respect this is the third film in a series as well, FC, DOFP and Apocalypse so maybe that scene around the ROTJ screening is a bit of self-humour

Call the phone number and Stan Lee leaves a voice mail.

Is it sad that that is probably all of Jubilee's involvement in the movie?

BTW ally sheedy is playing Scott Summer's teacher who reports him to the principal office.

Hurrah, it took 13 years after that tease at the end of X2, but we finally get to see the Phoenix firebird on screen!

As for the movie, definitely nowhere near as good as FC or DoFP, I didn't dislike it, it just felt kinda bloated, just couldn't really put my finger on it. Kinda felt like the same old shit recycled we've seen before- Cyclops in high school, Wolverine at Alkali Lake, Magneto all moody, same characters and their powers we've all seen before numerous times, etc etc. Again, I enjoyed it I suppose, but I kept thinking I'm not really digging this as much as I want to.

Also was annoying the Wolverine cameo was given away in the trailer, once Jean, Scott & Nightcrawler were walking around those corridors I was just waiting for him to show up. Zero surprise when he appeared. Also the one thing I hated most amount The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was how the trailer gave away literally the scene and even the last shot of the movie. Exact same thing happens here. Sigh.

Random thought- I noticed Angel is never referred to as Warren Worthington, and even in the end credits is simply "Angel." Given the wonky timeline and ages, it's probably best to assume that (like Emma Frost) this guy and the one in X-Men 3 are two different people with similar powers. And also like the Angel in X3, the guy here also barely says a word and doesn't exactly do much.

Also it's almost laughable how zero effort is really made to make this universe and continuity between the movies make sense. End of DoFP we think Stryker has Wolverine, and will be using him for Weapon X... ah yes... but oh wait it was actually Mystique!! What's she doing with him? What's she going to do with him?? Wait two years to find out!!

... Oh... there's no mention of that... Stryker just has him anyway... Does Mystique ever mention him? No.

Huh, wtf, did Mystique simply hand him over, lose him, what happened? "oh well, whatever, who cares" is probably the best answer. Lame. Lazy and lame.

I did like the little movie discussion injoke "Either way I think we can all agree the third ones are the worst." At first I thought it was a little tongue in cheek to this being the third in the prequel trilogy, then I realised maybe it was more a nod to The Last Stand :)

Best thing about the movie? Psylocke. Man is her outfit hot. Haha if you're ever bored just look at her :D
