Apparently not, given the lengthy evidence further upthread, might want to go read that, I might have distracted you.

I already looked at the posters evidence I think it was from a locutus of borg whom I don't think I have ever met on these boards that provided the evidence. It was all from other sources other than the movies. I am using movie evidence only in my analysis.

Then I can only assume an error or bias on your part and that will not help the discussion.

Even with the hangers in a New Hope shown with the Millennium Falcon, the trench should be large enough to fit a Star Destroyer from top to bottom. The trench looks like it could be as large as ten Millennium Falcon lengths across. An Imperial Star Destroyer is less than that in height by at least one length of the Millennium Falcon.

Here is a shorter version of the video I originally posted. This scene is from the actual movie not a painting like Locutus provided. A star destroyer cannot fit in the trench according to this video.

I was using your earlier video to get an idea of the scaling. Specifically the shot in your recent one at 0:00 only (just before it changes to the closer in approach with the stormtroopers). The shot with the Death Star troopers at the console. The shot shows more of the trench where you can see more hangers like the one the Falcon his headed towards in the distance. That space is large enough to back in a Star Destroyers.

The falcon is about the same diameter as the shield generator balls on top of the star destroyers. If you picture it that way you can see there is no way a star destroyer can get in that trench.

I'm thinking the author didn't like how it was in ROTJ, or was just used to the old EU versions. the Tarkin novel does have quite a few minor EU references, including stuff from the author's previous work.

Still it is a continuity issue.

I tried, but we need a Star Destroyer that is shot at the same perspective as the trench.

Have you considered that the makers of the OT really didn't care about the scale all too much? That everything was done to look cinematic? Like the Defiant in DS9

the Falcon is 34.52–34.75 meters long. An ISD is around 1,600 long. The DS1 is 120 Meters in diameter according to the source books.

The discussion of these last couple of pages had me thinking I'd somehow stumbled into a Star Trek thread.

Both franchises can be just as nitpicky

Side note, have a 4k screencap of the DS1 from the trailer. Not sure where Wookieepedia got it. it isn't upscaled

Might be from the trailer on starwars.com

Seems to be higher quality then the one on youtube

That's the ILM official scale chart used for the movie. A Star Destroyer can easily fit in the trench.

Your chart is not to scale itself. Look at the size of the falcon in the screen cap and the shield generator in the drawing. The shield generator is much smaller than it should be. Sorry I just don't buy it. No way A Star Destroyer is going to make it. Funny thing is if you look at the RO teaser the Star Destroyer is even smaller than what you depict. The scale is off for sure.

Dude, you're just being deliberately obtuse or argumentative for the sake of it. Even if everything is massively off scale (which it's not), you can just eyeball that the Star Destroyer can pull right in there and park. If it was twice the size that it is it could still pull into the trench.

How more to scale can you get then the official ILM size chart? They're the ones who designed the bloody thing.

No way. Your star destroyer is way to small. The RO depiction of the Star Destroyer is even smaller. They got the scale wrong by probably double or more to make the death star seem larger in scale. I am not being argumentative I am just stating the obvious error in the scale that the RO producers made. If you were to stay in the POV of the RO video watching the star destroyers move toward the death star and watching the 4th from the right move closer to the equatorial trench it would be closer to the size of the falcon to your eye once it flys into the trench. Even at the point we see it in the video it is way to small compared to the trench. The only thing I can figure is that there are different size star destroyers and the 4th one from the right is half the size of a regular star destroyer.

Also you keep using the view of the trench and falcon from a drawing. I am using the one from the movie.

You know, everyone else but you has put visual evidence to back up their claims, so why don't you do the same? Or we can just move on if you never have any intention to back your claims up, because this conversation is tiresome and really not important to whether or not the story is going to be good.

That image of the Falcon approaching the hanger is a screencap from A New Hope

The problem is we have no side profile views of the actual physical model used in filming. I can't grab any old model image of the web because you'll just site it as not being 'accurate to the film'

    Edit:

I think I found one, I even put the falcon behind the bridge. Though I'm done with this now. I'm with Locutus, lets just discuss the movie as a whole.
