Thank goodness I found the "ignore" button. Is he still talking?

    Dennis,
I don't know what you are trying to intimate but you certainly don't know what you are talking about. I for one know the details of the situation and there was nothing unsavory about it; in fact, it was a relief for Farragut that STC took over for them. Not only were they ready to move on to the movie era but they were unable to afford their part of the monthly expenses. Basically STC bailed them out. It was a business agreement by both parties in which Farragut came out VERY well and there was nothing more to it. I don't care for this sort of innuendo and revisionists history. If you have something more substantial to say backed up with facts; please do.

Cool story, bro. You can claim what you like, of course. You both work for STC and that's nice, I guess.

The Farragut folks are a great bunch; they've put together quite a talented group and really are what a fan film organization should be.

The truth usually is a cool story

It's no claim. When it was happening I talked to Mike Bednar about this and I talked to Vic about this; I know what happened and why and I know the details of the agreement and your assertions are completely wrong. The Farragut guys are a great bunch as are the STC bunch. Yes, we both do work with STC so we DO know what we are talking about. Not sure why you have chosen to dump on STC but it is not cool; particularly when not true.

Looks like Dennis is just trolling at this point. Being this obtuse with absolutely nothing to offer in explanation, not even an "I'm not allowed to say" disclaimer.....

maybe confused over the old Ajax rumors from the days of the "set stealing" drama or something? shrug.

No one is trolling. What was being asserted is a priori that the reason Farragut Films sold their interest in the studio was to make Farragut Forward. Isn't it possible they sold their interest for reasons not publicly stated and not because they wanted to make a new show, and that this new show was something they came to as a result of selling the studio rather than as a motivation to do same?

Also, does it also not occur to anyone that Dennis is a longtime friend of the Farragut head honchos, and he would be privvy to what was going on from their side?

    Seriously...

..... .and anyone here is supposed to know the behind the scenes connection to other random posters on TrekBBS?

If something is needed for the context of his statements, then its on him to give it context and explanation, not answer "you're wrong!" repeatedly.

Dennis is the one that turned this argumentative, imo.... oh well, it is what it is.

    Thanks, Maurice.

Using flexible funding through IndieGoGo, STC will keep a substantial part of what they raise whether they reach their goal or not.

So, there's nothing tragic here. If potential donors have become more skeptical of six-and-seven-figure fan film fundraising as a result of Axanar's exposure - good. They should be. The sausage-making is never as pretty as the online PR.

If there is any question as to whether Farragut decided to move into the WOK-era and sell their share of the sets, all readers are certainly free to contact the "head honcho" (as Mr. Molyneaux calls him) of Starship Farragut -- Mr. John Broughton -- directly. His email is readily accessible via the official Farragut website.

Yep. You can ask people anything.

Of course that "policeman's question" as carefully phrased isn't the one actually raised, is it?

People could ask a lot of folks more interesting questions than that one.

I just lose my patience with the happy face PR nonsense after a bit.

Ah yes. "Despite the accounts of the parties involved, I have second-hand evidence -- which I will neither reveal nor explain -- and you simply must believe it because I say so!"

    What a compelling position. ;)

As a great man said, "I don't have a dog in this fight."

So...skepticism is a good thing, and the crowd funding chickens are coming home to roost. People running these things will find ways to pay for what matters to them whether more fans wisely keep their money in their wallets or not.

So far all I've learned here is that Farragut was under some financial strain, which I'd sort of surmised anyway.

Pure revisionists history. When I spoke with Mike Bednar at the studio just after the sale he crowed about the great deal they got and what a great job of negotiating Farragut did. Granted I never spoke to John but the Farragut side all agreed to the deal. I know for a fact that the TWOK era that they wanted to move into was thought out well before the studio sale because John Broughton asked me to help design some elements of the TWOK era sets for his garage (which never happened) over a year before the sale was even thought about.

I don't really care if Dennis is a longtime friend of the head honchos or not; what he is intimating is not true.

Yes there is trolling going on, particularly in light of Dennis' statement that he has "no dog in the fight" , which I take to mean that he is not privvy to what actually went on. In the slight off chance that he does have some inside knowledge, he should get over himself and his cryptic responses and state how he has gained this knowledge or relationship to the parties, otherwise it's just baseless opinion.

Seriously, based on his posts... No.

No dog in this fight implies that he isn't backing one particular side and doesn't care who "wins the fight" - neither one are HIS dogs.... yet his insistence shows that he clearly has taken a side in the matter.... lol.

To be fair, Dennis was referencing David Gerrold's repeated assertions that he "has no dog in this fight" when talking about the Axanar case, despite his clear involvement with Peters and Ares Studios.
