I was actually surprised my local Best Buy didn't get any at all. Granted Best Buy is very hit and miss with blu-rays these days, they usually get "big" releases in plenty of stock, like Walking Dead or Game of Thrones. In fact, I was even able to get the recent Doctor Who and Sherlock blu-rays there. I would have thought for sure they'd have Star Wars. Instead I ended up getting it at Wal-Mart.

To be honest, I just don't get Best Buy anymore. Yes, physical media is on its way out, but there is obviously still a demand for it given it's still being made. And given they have reportedly been losing sales to people who see things in their stores available for cheaper prices on Amazon, you'd think they'd want to compete with that instead of giving people a reason not to shop there. Sure most of the time, it can be debated the DVDs or blu-rays I'm looking for just aren't that popular, but not stocking one of the most popular movies from the past year? That's dropping the ball.

Has anyone had any trouble with downloading the digital copy from the ForceAwakensDigitalHD.com website? I can't seem to get it to work. I presume this is just because its the first night the Blu-Ray is out and all the nerds (like me) are doing exactly what I'm doing and its overloading the system, but I've never had this happen with a code redemption before, so I thought I'd ask.

That's crazy. My area's Best Buy got tons of copies of both versions of TFA, but they inexplicably didn't get any copies at all of the Desolation of Smaug EE in 2014 on the day of release, and either the same exact thing happened the next time around with the EE of The Battle of the Five Armies or they only got a few copies and sold out early. And these were prominently featured as sale items in their weekly ads that went out with all the newspapers. I chalked the first time up to a random fluke but having that happen two years in a row is kind of ridiculous.

They must have some problem with their system of allocating inventory.

As far as the availability of the steelbooks is concerned, it may be that they are overcompensating for the Fury Road debacle.

I don't buy movies very often since I do the disc and streaming Netflix, and Amazon Prime, but I have to admit I do find TFA tempting. I also own all of the other movies, except the Ewok movies and the 2-D shows, so the completist in me really wants to buy it, but the rest of my brain says to just wait and get it from Netflix.

I just got the steelbook. My local Best Buy still had plenty of them. $28, highway robbery... :scream:

I would've got the steelbook but it was a rip off at 28 bucks. Then I thought about getting the Target version because of the Target exclusive features. That was 24 bucks which is good enough because of the extras bonus features. However the packaging was cheap as hell and so flimsy it felt like it would fall apart if I held it too much. I wound up getting the standard release.

The picture quality is amazing. I was blown away by it. I've watched all the bonus material except for the hour plus making of feature. I'm too swamped with other stuff to watch it for a few days.

Silly me for staying up all night, being half asleep when I bought my Target exclusive edition. If I'd been thinking clearly I'd have gone for the Steelbook.

A lot of people out there are really pissed at Target for the late pre-orders, pathetic cheap packaging, and 'exclusive content' that is online only and requires jumping through hoops to access.

Somehow I am enjoying the audio mix more watching the movie at home than in the theaters.

I know what you mean. I saw the film only once in theatres back in December. I thought it was OK but felt I really needed to see it at home. Saw it for the second time this afternoon at home. EVERYTHING about this film is 10 times better than I remember in the theatre. I think I'm done seeing movies in a theatre. The quality of the home experience has gotten so good that it's a better experience than being in a distracting crowd and an uncomfortable seat. And, I can have a cocktail with my film.

I've watched via the DisneyMoviesAnywhere app/page - I assume the Target content is the Boyega/Ridley bit?

I agree that the 'exclusive content' packaging version is cheap crap. Nice for $5 more.

I've watched the BD a couple of times since getting it on Tuesday. It's still amazing to me how much I like this movie and how good I find it to be since I've always been much more of a ST fan than a SW fan; but this movie I like a whole heck of a lot more than the JJ Star Trek movies and I look more forward to Episode VIII, Rogue One and others than I do the next Star Trek movie.

Haven't dove into the special features of the BD yet, only thing I've checked out is the "Descriptive Audio" track which I often enjoy listening to even though I'm otherwise perfectly sighted and don't need this feature; it's just interesting to me to experience how the movie is described to the visually impaired.

Interestingly, when describing Rey's first scene her speeder is said to resemble a USB thumb-drive.
