Belated super congrats Donny! So awesome! :D Best of luck to you and your new opportunities.
Now I'll have a little earworm diddy singing in my head for the next few days. Luckily, Dionne Warwick is one of my favorites. ;)

As a big STO player, I'm excited to see what they have you work on.

    Just an update:

I've been at Cryptic for a week. All is going well; I'm slowly learning their graphics engine and software. Unfortunately, in many ways (until the engine is updated), I won't be able to create the level of quality that you see in my work here, nor will I have the time. Everything is much more time and memory-budget constrained. But it's a great paying job and will get me good experience for working in the industry.

This does mean, however, that there is a certain itch to come home to work on personal stuff (like my TOS and TWOK projects), so as soon as I'm more settled in, you should see me resume work on the stuff here.

    Stay tuned.

    That's great!
I hope someone somewhere uses your great interiors in some VR application.
Perhaps Cryptic will lead the way to something.

    Best of Luck.

    Hey man, great to hear!
I work in VFX and know guys in the games industry. You'll probably move from company to company based on projects. Just be careful that you are paid and treated properly (this includes how they deal with overtime during crunch time with their employees).
Yep, everything is definately time and budget constrained. As well as what the client wants.
"He wants what? No really, he wants this to look like this? What the what?"
"But I can go home and do it in half the time and make it look 10 times better.."
    Welcome to the industry!

While I still haven't had time to do any major environment work on my personal projects, I did manage to whip up a "Cage/WNMHGB" phaser pistol over the weekend.

I've been very interested in the two pilots of Star Trek recently.

    Wasn't that a LASER pistol, though? ;)

    Great work, Donny!

THAT one was the redetailed one from WNMHGB where the term "phaser" was used. Had he made it without the gears wheels on the tail end and the typewriter keys on the sides, then it would have been a laser from "The Cage."

    Great job, Donny!

Dude! How do you manage to get your renders to look like photographs of real objects? I don't think I've never seen anyone do that quite as effectively as what I've seen here.

I realised how large the trigger was on those lasers/phasers.

    Those metal surfaces look great!

PBR textures go a long way (Physically Based Rendering, if you aren't familiar), as does the renderer, Marmoset Toolbag 2, I use for props these days.

    Here are some updated images:

The more basic "laser pistol" how it appeared in The Cage:

And the upgraded and busier "phaser pistol", how it appeared in Where No Man Has Gone Before, The Man Trap, and What Are Little Girls Made Of?:

I like how the background reflects the tunic colors seen in The Cage and WNMHGB.
